STORRS, Conn. (October 25, 2006)-- The University of Connecticut was notified Tuesday evening by the NCAA Membership Services staff, which has responsibility for reviewing initial eligibility matters, that freshman men's basketball student-athlete Hasheem Thabeet (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) has been granted full initial-eligibility status under NCAA regulations.
"I am very happy that everything has worked out and am excited to be fully eligible," said Thabeet. "I would especially like to thank Coach and the members of the athletic department who worked very hard to make this possible."
"I am very excited for Hasheem and our program," said head coach Jim Calhoun. "I am thrilled that he has an opportunity to participate in college athletics and to pursue his degree.
Inaelekea Hasheem atafanikiwa kuingia NBA. BE SMART!
