hi there,
i am very saddened by the complaints made by mzungu who was allegedly ill treated in tanzania to the point of advising other visitors and expats to stay away of tanzania because of what she went through at the airport and customs in dar, equally i am disapointed with the responses from my fellow countrymen.this is why:
1. both parties are being reactive(instead of proactive) to the situation.tz nationals know we are one of the most corrupt, dishonest and incompetent country in the world yet we wait for some mzungu to highlight this to us!!!
2.every citizen of tanzania is living proof of the results of the above mentioned problems,so lets not pretend we dont see, know or experience.
3.the mzungu was wrong to say ,she/he that,no one should set foot to the country because of the negative experiences she had,as this would mean the good intentions from organisations and induviduals(non judgemental and proactive) that is much needed to our local communities (who are the real victims of the system that the mzungu was pissed off of) would never benefit from.
4.these allegetions should be directed to the accountable induviduals and the system that supports this kind of behavior but never to the people.(even USA and UK have had their fair share of incompentancies ,even though you might urgue not to this level but still has left victims behind,i.e global credit crisis and MP expenses, this doesnt mean i am going ot say we have better political or economical systems than US or UK ,rather humans accountable to look after our humanly needs and wants have let us down big time.
5. lets have a constructive and actionable debates to create solutions to the problems we face now and will continue to face for the years and years to come.lets remember the problem is not there(them) but here (us).
thanx
cabral.

Yes, the problem is US.
ReplyDeleteNOT the Government,
NOT the Politicians,
NOT the Officials BUT US.
We have the POWER to change OUR Country.
We need to stop Whining and DO Something.
In the 2010 Elections Vote NO to ALL known Corrupt leaders from ANY Party.
VOTE for an INDIVIDUAL with GOOD CHARACTER and NOT his/her PARTY.
Lets HELD those in charge ACCOUNTABLE for their FAILURES.
Hold your horses there citizen Cabral
ReplyDelete"every citizen of tanzania (Tanzania) is a living proof".... of what, theft, rushwa? I am definitely NOT and I am sure thousands or may be more are honest God fearing and law abiding , selfrespecting individuals. Dont generalise. Its obvious you are not a trained logical thinker
With all its warts and all,
Mungu ibariki Tanzania
Slowly we will get there

It is difficult to just read the article and not feel like leaving a comment. I have to say that there is no, no perfect government in the world. But that doesn't mean that we should put up with something which is really really bad happening and we know that it is.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure if there is any point swearing as the F**K word has been used by the person who was complaining. There are authorities there is USA embassy why didn't she go there and report rather than taking just writting abusive article which in one way another touches everybody.
if two or three people have made a mistake it does mean that the whole population is a criminal.
I think Michuzi himself should do a research and see what steps have been taken rather than just posting these complaints here and expect people to just comment on them. It is sad! i thought at some point i was reading zemadudu
ni hayo tu

You cant lecture us on what to or not to say Cabral,We say whatever we feel and everybody has right to do so as long as theres no violation or breaking of a social or moral rule on blog ya jamii.(mkuu wa libeneke anaita kuchafua hali ya hewa, upo au kiswahili hakipandi?)If you think some of the comments are not constructive ignore them but I assure you the badness or goodness of other´s ideas depends on your perspective.Karibu bongo
ReplyDeleteWe all know that Mzungu is right, so is you Cabral. This country sucks (mzungu said is F----ed up). Even if we want to stop these, where are we going to start?
ReplyDeleteOne problem I see in Tanzania is this, many public workers especially, Airport, Customs and Postal employees feel superior to the people they serve. When you try to get their services they treat you like a sick man in a hospital; very sad. Whenever you deal with these people they make you feel like a slave, they make you kiss their a---es.
The whole system has to change especially the Police and Court systems these are the main problems of our country. If no body can be arrested and prosecuted properly, we will sing and cry without any results.
I think for people who live outside Tanzania we should start our own news organization either TV or Radio in Tanzania. This instrument will be managed and administered by people who live outside Tanzania. I am sure we have enough resources in the Diaspora to do this.
Mzungu was not offensive as some of us trying to perceive so; she was trying to prove the point.
Yours truly,
Mzee wa Ununio
Just outside of London, Heathrow Airport has long been called Thiefrow because of thefts of belongings from suitcases.
ReplyDeleteThe above is a copy/paste job
I am making no comments I am just showing you the obvious

I am sure zitafika zingine 100, and nothing will be done.
Kuna kipindi cha redio "Heka heka" wakigundua kero wanazifuatilia na kutafuta ufumbuzi. Hapa naona zinaletwa kucomments halafu tunaziacha.
All the best
I truly understand where Ray's frustration over the way he was treated at the airport comes from. Just a few weeks ago I travelled with my fiance for our wedding. The airline (Qatar) was kind enough to let my wife to be carry her wedding dress on board besides the normal hand luggage. When we got to Dar, I found the TRA officials to be very rude and lacked professional mannerism. Overhearing their conversation, they were discussing how much money there was in wedding dresses. They insisted on knowing how much my fiance had paid for her dress so that they could charge her. Firstly the dress was for personal use so there should not be any tax on it and secondly if there was any tax due someone should have explained to us rather than discussing in Swahili how much money they can extort from us. My fiance luckily was on transit as she had to travel to her country for a send off party before coming back to Tz, so we insisted on the exemption being on transit that she did not need to pay any tax on the dress. We wasted a good 20 minutes arguing with the custom officials.
ReplyDeleteIt is wrong of Ray to say people should avoid visiting Tanzania but I can understand where he is coming from. If we can treat a tourist or any person in that manner, we surely deserve what we are getting in terms of our bad reputation. In this case they are showing total lack of respect for regulations and paying too much attention in bureaucracy and corruption for personal gain. Yes blame the systems in place, but isn't it about time we also blamed the individuals doing these acts and action being taken against them?

Wee anon (Tarehe Sun Aug 16, 07:30:00 PM) hapo juu acha hizo, i do accept your points but the only thing i dont accept is that, there is no place for swearing, the person used the F**K word full stop, i know she trying to prove the point but you dont prove your point by swearing. If she was given the oportunity let say to speak on Live Tv channel and read what she has written, i'm sure people will go mad.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, there are so many people complaining about the airport staff, post office etc and the way you have written it is correct, i don't think there is a solution to that trust me lol.
If let say you are the president for a day what are you going to do changing the way the systems works and all associated problems.

My fellow Tanzanians,let learn good
ReplyDeletethings from Kenyans despite the fact that they could be more corrupt than us.One of the reasons
that there ere influx of westerners
in Kenya is a friendly response,
hospitality and welcoming spirit
to foreigners. They value and appreciate foreign aids that's why
there's neither theft nor hassel at Jommo Kenyatta Air potr or Mombasa port. For someone topay $38,000 taxes for a used vehicle from USA for our own benefit is
comletely insane.TRA should realize
that the price of American used vehicles is almost half of Japanese
reconditioned vehicles. For your verification go to "Autorec co.jp"
then write "Africa 3" pass word
860971.On that link you can find a
2004 toyota corola worthy $9000.00
can be purchased by only $4000.00
in USA,just go to"craig list.com"
go to any state then click used vehicles.you will be totally stunt.
So it's time for TRA officials to
join President Kikwete in one of his friquent trips to the US so as they learn something new if at all
Tanzania want to become American
business pertner. For those who pretend as if these evil never exist should realize that if you eat three times a day as most Tanzanians do then one of your daily meals comes from American tax
dollars.Instead of being thankfull
to Americans, you give them a middle
finger salute in return, the you call youselves civilized. It's loughable.

I don't think if there is even a need to discuss anything from that email from mzungu.
ReplyDeleteThe ABC of writing such a letter requires the writer to sustantiate his or her claims with vivid supportings and not as general as it is. So please hakuna haja ya kudebate maelezo ambayo hayana uhakika wowote.
What the F...k , the muzungu fellow can go to hell, when they come to Afica the thing in their heads is that AFrica is a basket case , waiting to be raped and helped. The sort of the muzungu fellow have come to wrong place and at the wrong time.Africa wont die away believe me with or without the "help" of the typeof the muzungu guys. That why I say they can go to hell , and for the better of Africa
ReplyDeleteThis dude can go straight to hell, as we dont care about what the f he/she is giving us! as the matter of fact there is nothing for free, so to be honest u guys are not helping us, u are getting more than what u r supposed to get thats why u dont want to go back to ur country when ur contract is done. If we are that poor and corrupt dont bring ur nose to our country go somewhere else and help them, if at all u r helping them. daaamn
