Brief Biodata
Professor Bathily is Professor of History in the Department of History, University of Cheikh Anta Diop. Whole his adult life, Professor Bathily has been an activist and a political actor. During the heyday of student militancy in Africa and elsewhere in the late 1960s, Prof. Bathily was the Chair of the National Union of Senegalese Students.

During the heyday of student militancy in Africa and elsewhere in the late 1960s, Prof. Bathily was the Chair of the National Union of Senegalese Students.
As a result of his militancy and leadership of student strikes, he was expelled from the University by President Senghor and was forced by the state to serve as a private soldier in the Senegalese army for 18 months.
Abdoulay Bathily has written widely, and has been active member and leader in the African Association of Political Science (AAPS) and CODESRIA. He has been a member of Senegalese National Assembly, its Deputy Speaker for 5 years and served on the Cabinet as Minister for Energy and Water Resources. Currently he is a member of the ECOWAS parliament. Between 1977-1980, he served as an external examiner in the Department of History at the University of Dar es Salaam.
