Cairo, Egypt (CNN) -- President Hosni Mubarak (above) has decided to stand down as president of Egypt, Vice President Omar Suleiman announced on state television Friday.

Suleiman said the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces will "run the affairs of the country."

Tens of thousands of anti-government protesters exploded in cheers on the streets of Cairo after the announcement.

"Egypt is Free!" they chanted.

A source with close connections to Persian Gulf government leaders told CNN that Mubarak had gone to the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.

  2. When people say you will go you must go. Egyptians have proven uncontrollable power of the people. They have been quite for 30 years but full of anger and now the anger has errupted like a volcano. This should be a lesson to all leaders like Mubarak. A president is a servant not a boss. Egyptian were not organized by any political party they were just tired.

  4. According to GPF current report Mubaraka anakisiwa kuwa na utajiri wa $70 billion na wanasema kama ni kweli atakuwa among the most richest persons in the world.

truly, i do concur with the then president of United republic of Tanzania, B. W. Mkapa who once said, Tanzanian are less thinkers...!! instead of reasoning why citizens of Egypt has revolted today and not some years before, people are thinking on the wealth of mubarak!! why mubarak and not gadafi, mugabe or museven.. think! think! think!! who is expected to cover the position of mubarak, who was he, what he did before..! think! think! think!..... then argue

You will think forever my friend while others like Egyptians are taking actions.
