I WATCHED THE DEBATE BETWEEN OBAMA AND ROMNEY. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SAYING ROMNEY WON. BUT I DON'T SEE IT THAT WAY. WHEN I MOVED TO THE US A REPUBLICAN WAS PRESIDENT, I'VE SEEN REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS IN THE WHITE HOUSE. I LOVE THIS COUNTRY NO MATTER WHAT. AS A BLACK MAN IN AMERICA WHO HAS BEEN DOING BUSINESS IN A WHITE MAN'S WORLD, I KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
THEY WAY OBAMA REPRESENTED HIMSELF IN THE DEBATE, WAS HOW WHITE PEOPLE LIKE BLACK MEN TO PRESENT TO THEM. IF YOU TALK LOUD, OR GET PASSIONATE OR FRUSTRATED ABOUT SOMETHING, THE FIRST THING THEY SEE IS AN ANGRY BLACK MAN. WHITE FOLKS CAN SCREAM ALL DAY AND IT'S CALLED "PASSION" AND THEY SAY IT SHOWS THEY CARE. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT THING FOR PEOPLE TO SEE TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT RACISM IN THIS COUNTRY.
AS A SOCCER COACH, I SEE THIS EVERY WEEK. WHITE COACHES CAN SCREAM AT REFEREES, WE HAVE VERY FEW BLACK COACHES HERE, BUT IF WE YELL AT A REFEREE, WE ARE SCARY AND ANGRY BLACK MEN. FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SMART, THEY KNOW OBAMA PRESENTED HIMSELF THE WAY HE NEEDED TO FOR THIS FIRST DEBATE. IF HE HAD GOTTEN TRAPPED IN AGGRESSIVELY GOING BACK AT ROMNEY IT WOULD SCARE TOO MANY PEOPLE. TO ME ROMNEY LOOKED LIKE AN ANGRY, SCARED WHITE MAN, BUT NOBODY SAYS THAT ON TV.

ReplyDeleteOBAMA ANAWEZA KUWA MBAYA ILA BORA OBAMA KULIKO KURUDISHA WALIOSABABISHA DAMU KUMWAGIKA REPUBLICANS.
USA NI NCHI HUJIFANYA INAZUIA VItU HARAMU ILA InAISHI KWA HIVYO VItU HUZUIA DRUGS KUTOKA MEXICO ILA UKWELI NI WANAPENDA VIINGIE WANAVItUMIA KWA NJIA NYINGI, VITA WIZI WA MAFUTA NA AGHANISTAN HAIHUSIANI NAO NIZILE POPPY NDIO WANAZITAKA MADAWA YA KUTENGENEZA DAWA. SILAHA WAO TU NDIO WAWE NAZO?. M
Bravo Br Umesema Kweli tupu .... Weupe Nooma!
ReplyDeleteObama Oyeeeee....
God Bless Us All
A very good insight, indeed. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis debate was nothing to do with the race. so please don't bring the issue of race here.
ReplyDeleteVery good analysis. It takes a smart person to understand this, if not an experience of living with "White People." One thing about Obama is that he is too smart an individual for an average American. It was easy for many to say Romney won because he is a challenger. He can say anything against the incumbent on anything that is not yet fixed. Funny enough, despite his dishonesty, nonchalance against the Middle Class, his avowed support for the rich, gaffe over the 47%, and unclear plan to fix the economy and the country, he still has a huge support. For more on this, this Harvard Professor offers a wonderful insight on the debate body language to back up Kajumulo's...

we kajumulo hebu toolee kiingeleza chako cha kuvunia mihindi hapa...
ReplyDeleteSawasawa Kajumulo. Mtu aliyeishi ughaibuni lazima aelewe unachosema. I guess I know what you are talking about.
ReplyDeleteVilevile Obama anaongea kama Rais, lazima atoe responsible statements.
no no no i totally don't agree with you. obama was all out in the attack againt Macain and people didn't see it the way you are portraying; remember?. The bottom line is obama might be right in the policies but he gave too much hope for change. Thats why he was on the defense in this first debate. Remember this first debate was about domestic issues and the second is about foreign policy. So you can not compare performance in these two. obama's struggle is in domestic issues and will definitely prevail in the foreign policy debate. I dont mean to say that obama's domestic policies are bad but the hope for change was too high and the results havent reached the dinning tables as many had expected. So you can not compare obama's dismal performance in the debate with the examples of how you experience the black and write relations in the US which we have also experienced.
ReplyDeleteTrue he wasnt an angry black man
ReplyDeleteBut at the same time he appeared a wee bit under par, he was not fully fired up to his norm, he looked distant and disconnected. He had had a bad day, may be.Yule Romney kamkanyaga nyoka mkiani, ngoja uone!
To quote your statement:
ReplyDelete"IF (OBAMA) HAD GOTTEN TRAPPED IN AGGRESSIVELY GOING BACK AT ROMNEY IT WOULD SCARE TOO MANY PEOPLE"
You are totally wrong on this and am wondering why a professor supports your thesis:
(1) When you say “too many people” do you mean Blacks / colored or whites?
(2) The debate was about policies and not mere aggressiveness and scaring people. Obama failed to show himself as a better choice than Romney because he hasn’t met the aspirations of “too many people”.
(3) Do you mean that if Obama was white, Romney would not be aggressive because of the black / white politics you're trying to portray? Does it mean that Romney prepared for the debate with the thought of gaining from white superiority? The answer is 'NO'
In conclusion: Black people have to stop resorting to the “colour card” when this favours them or helps to justify their failures. HAD OBAMA WON THE DEBATE, NOBODY (AMONG THE BLACK AND COLORED) COULD HAVE MENTIONED THIS COLOR THING. WHY DO YOU USE IT WHEN YOU LOOSE AND NOT AFTER A VICTORY?
The bad experiences you mentioned (in soccer, etc) are real and unfortunate but have nothing to do with the DEBATE.
Kwa bahati mbaya debate siyo kama soccer..ni uamuzi wa watu siyo magoli. Debate inaweza kufananishwa na mashindano ya urembo hivi siyo lazima unayempenda ashinde. I'm wondering if you ever been in a classroom and be part of any type of a debate.
ReplyDeleteWekeni mapenzi kando. Obama kapigwa debate ya kwanza. Hata chama chake kina kili. Inabidi tufocus kwenye ya pili. Wewe mtu anataka kukunyang'anya kazi yao unamuangalia?
ReplyDeleteKajumlo, your point is well taken and researched.. however, in this case Obama seemed completely out of place and unprepared. Even his closing statement was just weak, I don't know if it was purposeful or he was caught off guard...
ReplyDeletewewe kajumulo naona sasa ndio umeanza kuijua marekani ilivyo -and yet mnasema "i love this country!!!!!!!"
ReplyDeleteObama looked tired and weary. He may have not come out sounding/looking strongly but what about all the movement and gestures Romney was making? Those movements may also mean maji marefu, yaani you are trying too much to get your points across, points that may mean they are not genuinely strong.
