OVER 700 PUBLIC-SECTOR LEADERS HEAD TO ARUSHA TO REVIEW PERFORMANCE, MAP VISION 2050 ROADMAP

 More than 700 board chairpersons and chief executives from state institutions and corporations will gather in Arusha from 28 to 30 September to review their performance and strengthen their role in delivering Tanzania Development Vision 2050.

 

Acting Treasury Registrar Ms Lightness Mauki (pictured) outlined the agenda today, 9 September 2026, during a breakfast briefing with news editors at the Hyatt Kilimanjaro hotel in Dar es Salaam.

 

The briefing highlighted the growing role of public institutions in advancing national development and set the tone for the upcoming high-level forum.

 

She said the Arusha gathering will be guided by a theme centred on three priorities: high performance, inclusiveness and resilience.

 

The goal is to build public institutions capable of driving Vision 2050 while remaining responsive to changing circumstances.

 

Beyond translating the Vision into day-to-day action, Ms Mauki said the forum will give leaders under the Treasury Registrar’s oversight an opportunity to exchange lessons and make better use of existing experience.

 

She noted that the gathering is going to be more than a routine meeting, but a platform to align experience, resources, policy papers and government directives with faster and more efficient delivery.

 

Ms Mauki, who also serves as the Treasury Registrar’s Director of Planning, Research and Business Development, said government investment in the institutions has risen by 75 per cent in three years to Sh92 trillion.

 

Revenue performance has also improved, she said.

 

“In the financial year ending 2026, the entities remitted Sh1.307 trillion, up seven per cent from Sh1.208 trillion collected in the previous year,” she said.

 

She described the figure as the highest amount collected since the Office of the Treasury Registrar was established.

 

The Office of the Treasury Registrar of Tanzania was established on 13 November 1959 through Treasury Registrar Ordinance No. 35 of 1959 to acquire, hold and manage government investments. The legislation is now known as the Treasury Registrar (Powers and Functions) Act, Chapter 370.

 

“Numbers like these show that our institutions are ready to play their full part in Tanzania Development Vision 2050, whose implementation formally began in July,” she said.

 

“As leaders in government and public institutions, we have a duty to translate our responsibilities into practical action and deliver the expected results,” she said.

 

“I encourage Tanzanians to follow our activities and the discussions that will take place during the meeting of board chairpersons and chief executives,” she said.

 

“Above all, I invite everyone to join us in celebrating the achievements recorded so far, while renewing our commitment to discharging our responsibilities efficiently, patriotically and with dedication,” Ms Mauki said.
