Kaka Michu,
First of all, please accept my immense gratitude and appreciation to what you have done for Tanzanians in terms of news coverage and making it possible for Tanzanian and Africans as a whole to network and share their experiences through your website. I would also like to share with you and others what we have done in Mtwara recently.
First of all, please accept my immense gratitude and appreciation to what you have done for Tanzanians in terms of news coverage and making it possible for Tanzanian and Africans as a whole to network and share their experiences through your website. I would also like to share with you and others what we have done in Mtwara recently.
We went to Mtwara after being invited by the Member of Parliament of Mtwara Urban, Hon. Mohamed Sinani in August this year with a total of 11 volunteers.
The group comprised of Teachers, Traffic and Highway Engineer (myself), Agricultural Engineer, Accountant and a Salesman from various countries such as USA, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Italy, UK and of course Tanzania. The group stayed in Mtwara for a duration of 4 weeks.
The trip covered broadly four main areas, Children (Orphans and underpriviledged children), Women empowerment and poverty alleviation and HIV/AIDS pandemic (See the attachment for the activities carried out). The trip also served as a fact finding mission on the areas above and we were priviledged enough to have the company of Ms Mwajuma I. Nyoni, Municipal Community Development Officer for Mtwara-Mikindani who pointed us to the right direction from day one.
This whole idea was conceived by myself and Maria Antoraz Alonso who suggested that we should do something for Mtwara . It was later endorsed by my father Mr. Mohamed Sinani, who agreed to provide free accomodation, transport (including airport transfers) and food for the volunteers.
A small fund raising raffle was organised by MVC and managed to raise £500 which was used to fund successfully for several activities and products.
The trip was so successful that all the volunteers promised to go back next year hopefully with more funds and ideas on how to tackle some of the challenges encountered.
A special mention should go to local government leaders in Mtwara including, the Regional Commissioner, the Mayor and the MP for Mtwara Urban as without their support, this would not have been possible.
I have attached pictures which you might wish to use some on your website. Please do contact me should you require more information on this.
Kind regards
Amin M. Sinani
