Four Norwegian musicians forming the "Elden" (Norwegian for "FIRE") project are coming to Zanzibar to collaborate with students and teachers at the Dhow Countries Music Academy for a 5-day-workshop. This project celebrates the 100th birthday of the Norwegian poet Olav H. Hauge (1908-1994).

The musicians in Elden are:
Folksinger Unni Løvlid has her roots in Norwegian folk music, but plays in a vast number of projects and styles. Today, she is one of Norway’s most exciting singers mixing folk, contemporary music and electronica.

Becaye Aw originally comes from Mauritania, but began his musical career in Senegal with the legends Mansuur Seck and Baaba Maal by his side. He has evolved his own unique way of guitar playing, inspired by kora and other African string instruments.

Saxophone player and composer Rolf-Erik Nystrøm is known for doing all kinds of projects without compromising on quality. He is considered as one of Norways most interesting musicians.

The percussionist/drummer Terje Isungset is known for making wonderful music out of the most unexpected objects. One of his best known projects is a performance played on instruments made out of ice giving him attention all around the world.

They are joined by the DCMA’s Safar Orchestra, mixing traditional Zanzibari musical styles with African and Western rhythms. The Safar musicians are Adel Dabo, Mohammed Haji Issa (Matona), Mohammed Othman, Mahsin Ally, Sadiq Juma, Asha Makame, Khatib Jeshi and Rajab Suleiman.
