THE RETURNED BILLIONS OF MONEY: BUT TO WHAT COST TO OUR ECONOMY?

Today I read from the ippmedia website (http://www.ippmedia.com/ipp/alasiri/2008/10/31/125502.html ) that in just two days Tsh. 17 billion has been returned in various banks. My concern is on the inherent effect to be created to our economy.
Is it a good thing? Obviously no economist can reply to this unless he or she knows the ‘sources’ and the ‘destination’ of that amount of money. Here are two questions I will like to ask Tanzanian economists:
Since the 17 billions are in Tanzania shillings, will the direct injection of that amount of money to our current economy lead to a rapid increase of circulation of money and inflation?

I guess before injecting such a huge volume of money, Tanzanians must also be assured that the sudden injection will not hike prices of certain goods and certain productive assets.
Are we assured and what are you thinking?
The other question I want Tanzanian economists to respond to has to do with the ‘source’ of such money. Did the Mafisadi hoard all the 17 billion ever since when they siphoned them from the BOT or some of the money is coming from the savings of other fellow citizens?
The fact that Mafisadi have returned the money should not be taken for granted by the economists. If all the 17 billions had been hoarded at home, then the economists must come with the answer of what was the effect during the withdrawal of such amount of money to our economy?
But if the money had already been ‘purified’ and was already invested in our system, I guess the economists will also be prepared to accommodate the outcry of some of our companies and households who will definately loose their savings, investment capacity and even labor force.
What are the Tanzanian economists thinking of this?

The person is concerned about the state of the economy. That is the issue people should focus.
Ndg mwananchi you don’t have to worry about the subject. Because inflation will only increase when governments want more money than they currently have and decide to print money, printing more money is inflationary.

Mdau, think in this way:
ReplyDeleteWhat happens to your financial position at home if you take money from your wife's handbag and put them in your wallet? NOTHING, because the total amount in your family is still the same. That is what happened in this case, assuming the family is Tanzanian economy.
The inflation you are worrying about will only happen if these 17 billions were printed by the BoT, then handed-over to the fisadi before being returned back. Yes we don't trust our government, but I don't think this thing happened.
And, if somebody's saving was taken, it is not a problem because the money is still in circulation.
The worst thing: When fisadi got the EPA money, some bought all the forex in the market, then sent them abroad and spent the remaining shillings in inflating housing market. That was shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!
