*The Julius Nyerere Master's Scholarship
The University of Edinburgh will offer a Scholarship to a student fromTanzania for postgraduate Master's study in any subject offered by theUniversity for the 2009-2010 academic session.
The Julius Nyerere Scholarship was set up in 2009 in memory of MwalimuJulius Nyerere who led Tanganyika to independence in 1961 and became the first prime minister and later president of Tanzania. Nyerere received a scholarship in 1949 to attend the University of Edinburgh where he obtained a Masters of Arts degree in Economics and History.
He was the firstTanzanian to study at a British University and only the second to gain aUniversity degree outside Africa.
The Julius Nyerere Master's Scholarship will cover the full overseas tuitionfee, living costs of £10,000, and a return flight from Tanzania to the UK.
In 2009-2010 the tuition fees and living costs will be covered by theUniversity of Edinburgh, while the return flights will be covered by theTanzania Edinburgh <http://www.tzeca.org.uk/> Community Association.
The scholarship will be tenable for one academic year. Eligibility The scholarship will be awarded to a Tanzanian citizen who is normallyresident in Tanzania, and who is accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master's programme of study at the University ofEdinburgh.
Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.
