Help Tracing my Tz father who

studied in Glasgow in the 1960's.

Hi !

I was wondering if you were able to help me trace my father.

I was born in Glasgow in 1963, in Scotland, my mum is Scottish, and I found out last year my dad was Tanzanian Indian.

He is a Muslim, and was studying there in Glasgow, when he met my mother. His name (as he told my mother) is Hussein Suleiman. He was about 21 at the time, so he is about 67 or so now.

The family owned a sugar plantation and refinery near Arusha called KARANGAI. The plantation still exists, but smaller, and the refinery is there but dormant.. (so I am told)

I heard the family decided to leave it as they could not make it work under the regime that took over after the British left, and emigrated, but not sure if they went to the UK or Canada, or even somewhere else. Have been told first it was the UK... and that would make sense.

Not even sure of the year, but at a guess I would say in the mid to late 1960's.. .. or even early 1970's..at a push. I don't really know much more details, I think the degree was in Mechanical Engineering, as the reason he was here at Uni was so he could maintain the refinery equipment (according to my blood mother)

I heard he has brother's and sister's, and as I said on the phone, he wanted to marry my mum and take her back to Tz, but she would have to convert to Islam, and she did not want that, so she had me adopted instead, as she was not in a position to look after me on her own.

I have searched the web for the name Hussein Suleiman.. and found nothing that seems to help, plus I am not 100% sure of the spelling... and as it is a Muslim name it could be a lot longer than that, he might have "Anglophiled" it for ease of use back then..

 Yours sincerely

Richard Collins

I strongly believe that this Guy is working for Verizon.

To me this guy seems real and desperate knowing where his Dad is.
Hajaomba Info zozote binafsi, kama unamjua baba yake, Muandikie umpe taarifa zaidi, ukiwa na mashaka naye kwa mtondo wowote ataokujibu, achana naye na report his email as a spam.

Back to you Richard, Africa is not as developed as Europe, so processes of looking for missing people could take longer time than that expected, All the best and Good luck. May God reunite you with your Dad.

  8. Jamaa hasemi kuwa anakaa U.K. Hasemi anakaa wapi huenda kweli anakaa Netherlands.

Mr. Collins, good luck in finding your father because there are a lot of Tanzanian Indians with that name. I would suggest that you go to the Tanzanian Counsulate in U.K. for help. They can check the records and see exactly who he was. Also, do not be suprised if he has already passed away.

  9. My question to him...is as to why he doesn't think they might moved back to India? Why would make sense to him if only they emigrated to uk or canada?

He sounds too fishy to me....He is too old to play dumb though...if it matters that much to search for his so called father he should take a plane and come here to look for him. it would have been so much easier.

Vile vile kutoa hio URL nikujaribu kuwavutia watao liwa waingie laini. Wizi mtupu waki-naija huu.

  11. To qoute your words Mr Richards Collins 'I heard he has brother's and sister's'.

This seems really unheard of for a scottish/english man to make such a double error- 'I heard he has brother's and sister's'.

  13. Richard Collins,
You need to do your homework first before you come and ask for help here.
Your father was studying at a University in Glascow, have you tried to contact the university to inquire about his actual name and what course he studied? That could be a starting point.
Next, you can contact the Tanzania High Commission there for assistance, they could contact the Ministry of Home Affairs Tz for you.
If he travelled to the UK using a Tanzanian passport, there surely will be some particulars at the Home Office in Dar Es Salaam.
I would have thought posting on the blog would have been a last resort if all the above fails!
Anyway if you are genuine ... good luck.

I share the frustration that Mr. Collins is going through. I believe with the access of this blog you will be able to get even the starting point.

One thing that i will advice you is to go to that University where he graduated and ask to see his high school records. That will be a good starting point to know the high school name that he went. Then it will be easy to search for Alumni of that school.
Then you can take a journey from there....

    GoodLuck! Go get your Dad.

  16. I agree with Mchumi wa Texas, the university should be the best place to start searching. I highly doubt our Embassy in London has any records. We have just started keeping records just few years back.

Collins, if you give the University proper documentation about your case, they will open the files for you. He has to have his High School name and address there (chances are he probably lived near the school) and you can easily find out about the ex-employees of his company, they might help you to direct you to him.

I have personally found long lost friends through my university website. There are also many websites in Canada and the UK which helps people like you.

Don't get offended by some of the negative commments here. In Tanzania, we have internet access in every corner of the country now, so expect some idiots to doubt your story. Only a nutcase will assume you wanna cheat someone by asking for your dad's information.

    Good luck.

Mr. Collin's; you claim that your father's family owned a (still-existing) Sugar plantation and refinery in Arusha callled KARANGAI? Well man, what more could you ask for?! If you truly are authentic and REALLY wish to trace your dad, then you already have the perfect point of departure right there!

Don't be such a wuss man, you need only take a single flight to Arusha and I bet your quest for your dad will be solved overnight!

Hey folks, I just found out that this particular request for assistance from one "Richard Collins" from Verizon is most likely a phony inquiry from one of them Nigerian scammers (see here: http://www.419baiter.com/_scam_emails/loan_scams/richard-collins-international-loan-scam.html )

    Tusirukie majibu kabla hatujafanya utafiti.

Thankyou for all the comments, some helpful, some not.
I am not a scammer.. as someone attempted to say I was, there are many people with the name Hussein Sulieman, there are also many people with the same name as me, richard collins.I have already tried the Uni's and got nowhere. All the info I have on my father is from my birth mother.. and she was one one who told me his name, the name of the plantation, what he was doing in Scotland, and that he had brothers and sisters. So again, I say to you all, I am for real, and trying to trace my father, and his family so I can pass these "roots" and history on to my son.. if you dont like that, then I am sorry, but stop leaving ditasteful remarks about me.
