Dr Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem, arenowned pan-africanist and accomplished scholar is dead. He was theGeneral Secretary of the Global Pan African Movement, based in Kampalaand also Director of Justice Africa, based in London. He was aNigerian national.
Dr Tajudeen who has also been a regular columnist for the DailyMonitor on issues of poverty, governance and global politics died in acar crash in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday morning. He was driving to JomoKenyatta International airport to board a plane to Rwanda for ameeting. A vigil for the fallen scholar will be held at thePan-African movement offices in Kamwokya and also at his home inKabalagala today.
He was highly recognized for his outspokenness and strong leadershipin campaigning for global justice, good governance, publicaccountability, human rights, democracy, regional integration and PanAfricanism.
Since 2006, Tajudeen has been based in Nairobi as Deputy Director(Africa) for the United Nations Millennium Campaign; ensuring thatcivil society voices continue to be heard in the global effort againstpoverty and injustice.
For more than 2 decades, Abdul-Raheem has been engaged with leadingAfrican civil society organizations and social movements across Africaand in the Diaspora.
