TERROR IN THE HEARTLAND,
WHAT IS THE ROOT CAUSE……DEBATE

The nation has been wounded, and gripped with fear as terror reigned on her heartland. In the wake of daring and violent robbery in Temeke at a NMB branch, we MUST be realistic with ourselves by asking some very legitimate questions, instead of focusing on short term solutions of simply bringing to books these criminals.
We must STOP them, by going into the root cause of the problem, with a main purpose of finding a long term solution to the ever growing and evolving pandemic of violent robbery.

For the bank workers, it was business as usual, nation building and economic struggle, until their lives were interrupted so violently, as some died or sustained life changing injuries, which were both physical and psychological in a blink of an eye with Hollywood style operation in the heart of Tanzania. To the law enforcement, it is a nightmare to put together the scattered pieces and eventually apprehend the criminals.
Our heart goes to the families of those who have lost their loved ones, and those nursing wounds sustained during the violent robbery. We are also wishing our law enforces best of luck as they trail the villains.

Undoubtedly, this was a long, and well coordinated operation that stretched many months, and any logical human would believe, that these men could not have pulled this crime by simply walking into the bank ; there must have been some collaborators involved, and many months of intelligence gathering as well as daily surveillance of the area. Logistical preparations involved many disciplined individuals who kept tight- lip strategy as the only way to succeed. These men were prepared to counter any eventuality with battlefield machines of war; they were harmed to their teeth, and even a few police officers effort would not have bared any fruits.

Short sighted individuals will soon call upon Mr. Lawrence Masha, the minister of interior, and his staff –probably chief of police- to resign. Such a call would be naïve to say the least. The country needs to think deeper on the long term solution than simply bring to books the culprits, for their maybe thousands if not millions more ready to do anything to feed their families. Parliamentary or presidential commissions will be useless in this case. The solution lies deeper in economic solution to the general population.
Both educated and uneducated young people need jobs.

We Tanzanian’s, have the tendency to blame, but have little practical solutions to our own problems. We tend to be more cynical than realistic; we blame so much but do very little, and at a time we try to demoralize those daring to do good for the well being of the majority. We know that these criminals are living amongst us.
They rent our homes, eat with us and coordinate their deadly crimes against our nation with our help, but we never report their crimes to the authorities before they strike and then we turn around and blame the government, or the police for not doing enough.

Some have speculated that, they work maybe have been the work of foreign criminals. No one knows yet, and only investigation will give the answer, and if it turns out to be the work of foreign elements, then our immigration laws will need thorough review.
Either way, I cannot be convinced how foreigners could coordinate such a daring attack in a country they don’t know about, and that would leave us to assume that they worked with natives. Should investigation point fingers towards the home grown criminals, then we got to be realistic and ask ourselves real questions, on how a country revered to be so peaceful, a country based on brotherhood can produce such lethal killings machines.
With best, and well equipped police force in the world, controlling millions of people especially the youth trying to find ways to feed their families will be next to impossible; You will kill until you can’t kill anymore. You will fill your jails with culprits, but that will never resolve the matter. I am looking at the matter from a different scope, and tend to see the future more scary and intimidating if we do not become pragmatic in assessing the situation in its realistic standpoint. This is not the first time the nation has been terrorized by these thugs; however, there is big change on the execution style.
When we the people, blame the government over economic crimes, yet we lineup by the roadside to give heroic welcome to people tainted by corruption scandal, something is extremely wrong, and must be addressed urgently. I tend to look at the future through this scope, in which we recycle economic rapists and criminals to lead us time after time.
I see the future of our nation through ECONOMIC desperation in which thousands of young men and women cannot find jobs at home, and even the educated population feeling marginalized and remained with no alternative but to vend water to feed their families.
People have lost hope, and are no longer afraid to die.
Corruption is driving the country into a breaking point. People are desperate, and have lost patience. They are pushed into the wall and simply acting naturally to the situation of hopelessness and despair. The boiling hunger towards TRA is a typical example how people are tired of corruption which is depriving young people of their natural rights for better life.

The citizenry should therefore not blame Mwema, or Commander Kova, infact they should be hailed as heroes. The citizenry should blame itself for not using its NON-VIOLENCE approach, and democratic weapon of BALLOT to rid itself of those making life harder for millions of Tanzanian’s.
We should not blame the president, because his powers are vested upon him by the people, we the people hold the power to decide on our own destiny. As long as we keep mute over these sorts of criminals, we are in for a long haul of terror.
While the criminals took innocent lives and robbed 61 million shillings, the EPA, criminals looted 133 billion shillings with our help - collaborators.
While commander Kova, and his team trails these outlaws, the known EPA and RICHMOND culprits posted billions of shillings to secure their freedom, while they should lead the way with hands cuffs to face equitable justice. Both are criminals of high proportions.
Even though the former used different tactics, perhaps economic desperation precipitated by EPA kingpins, triggered it all.

Let us try to induce equitable economic opportunities into the country, and see how long these acts of violence and desperation will continue, Instead of leaving the wealth of the country in the hands of few people who are not going to be safe for long either.
My scope is not giving me good view of the few rich who have looted our nation; soon or later, the heat is going to turn up on them. Even though the corrupt are basking in comfort and glory, they are unfortunately; surrounded by economically deprived poor majority and I can only sum it up by saying,
My country tears of THEE!
Mungu Ibariki Tanzania

  2. MASHAKA, YOU ALWAYS WRITE SOME GOOD POINTS ABOUT YOUR NATION, TANZANIA. BUT, I GUESS IT IS TOO EARLY TO DECLARE (IN PERSON), THAT NEITHER MWEMA NOR PRESIDENT JK. AND WHOSOEVER, SHOULD BE BLAMED. INVESTIGATION IS STILL UNDERWAY, AND YOU, WITHOUT HESITATING GIVE SUCH SOLID STATEMENTS. I UNDERSTAND, YOU ARE SEEKING FAME, WHICH YOU PROBABLY FIND, AS SOME PEOPLE LIKE YOUR VIEWS.

I AM ONCE AGAIN SUGGESTING FOR ONE THING MASHAKA. WHAT YOU POST HERE IS NOT A TOPIC TO DEBATE, BUT RATHER IT IS A TOPIC TO DISCUSS. DEBATE, BY IT'S LOOK HAS TWO DIVERGING SIDES/VIEWS. YOURS DOES NOT INDICATE THAT. BUT IT'S OPEN TO MULTIPLE DIRECTIONS. A DEBATE USUALLY, HAS AN ASSERTION WHICH REQUIRES SUPPORTERS AS WELL AS THOSE ARGUING AGAINST THE MOTION.

MASHAKA NA DR. SHAYO, MLISOMA SHULE GANI? YOUR WRITING IS UNNATURAL. MNAANDIKA KAMA MKO MAHAKAMANI? YOUR IDEAS ARE OK. BUT THEY FLOW BOOKISH! MNANIKUMBUSHA HOTUBA ZA RAIS B.MKAPA. HATA AKIONGEA NA WANANCHI, ALIONGEA KAMA ANASOMA MAANDISHI. MNAKOSA MUKTADHA (CONTEXT).

    Dear Mashaka and shayo
I know you guys are hard working and would like to see Tanzania moving forward. It is sad to what has happened. Our leaders know these things but unfortunately are not delivering tough solutions.

I am told, this is the tip of ice! more is to come. People are tired. Young people have no future.

Takecare my little brothers, thus why, i have been advising you remain where you are. You came here, the system will frastrate you. It is easy to write. But difficult to put that in practice.

  11. Mashaka,

Your article clearly shows that you are unsaviness when it comes to Tanzania's issues. The idea that Wananchi are capable of determining their destiny through the ballot box is childish, preposterous, loughable... just to name a few. It seem you have been out of the country for so long, and that is the reason you have lost touch with reality. Let me remind you that elections in Tanzania is similar to WCW (World Championship Wrestling); In other words, it is sadly a formality that people have to ENDURE in order to showcase to the world that we too have democracy.

  26. It is really sickening to see that every disaster inflicted by evil spirits to our people is turned into a campaign trail for future elections. And we know that evil spirits are abounding in any State whether there is good leadership or not. Who says that life is simple and easy and that the Homo sapiens are the most peaceful creatures on Earth? Those who think they have easy solutions to all our problems are indeed devoid of solutions, they are the ones who have no solutions at all. And those who raise banners to praise them are dead blind of reality. John Mnyika is not material for presidency of United Republic of Tanzania. As Theodore Roosevelt once said, he is just one of "the men with the muck-rakes" and I add men with no real solutions but just blames and blah blah. Men who feel that the ruling party is nothing but muck without seeing the reality of the hard work and the caution to maintain peace taking each problem carefully to its elimination!

  29. Mashaka i loved some of ur comments however in some areas u seems to mispoint if not undermining issues. There are multiple reasons for robbery in Tanzania, apart from all that you mentioned in your article the Retirement Age of military soldiers need to be reviewed, most of the robbery going on in Tanzania are being arranged and executed by retired officers. We have to think on increasing the retirement age and utilize these officers in a productive way.

  33. I think this is bunch of BS, We all know that our country is corrupted to the core, the only way to clean up the Govt. is either by eliminating all the old school thinkers or to bring in some young folks who are educated with wide range of experince in running a Govt. Without that the Tanzania as we know it, it will be a battlefield for those who are sick and tired of the same ol crap that are being fed by the Govt. So Mr. Mashaka if you are such an expert in the Govt. why don't you show us what kind of experience you have in dealing with political issues and in running a Govt. I bet you have never even hold a leadership position in a company, if that is the case then how the hell are you going to run a Govt? Just curious.... Well, I wish all the people who are wasting their time listening to mashaka well. Instead of being constructive and coming up with an inventive idea on how to help solve our current crisis. Action speak louder than words! If you want to know how just look at the simple example from Barack Obama who took office and after six month he has already set things in motion to be done. That is what I call progress in motion by example(Action). So for people who wants to change Tanzania they should start by studying the country and it's political views and then implementing a plan that will be excuted once they are in power.
