WE ARE TIRED OF VIOLENCE AND POLITICAL
DEADLOCKS ,SAYS SEIF SHARIF IN LONDON

The Secretary General of Cuf Maalim Seif Shariff Hamad has been in London out lining the Future of CUF (civic united front) .Speaking to the Diaspora at the Barking Abbey school in East London, Saturday.
He started by telling the history of Zanzibar as a country especially the Birth and alliances of Political Parties. He said political parties have never contributed to any development ,unity and peace in Zanzibar since 1962.
"They are actually the root cause of almost all the problems that Zanzibaris face today," he said.
His remarks come amid a sensitive debate on the need to tell Zanzibaris especially in the Diaspora most of whom claim that they have left their properties and families behind for the sake of freedom and self determination of Zanzibar under CUF.
Maalim Seif, for the first time claimed that what they are advocating for in this governemnt of national unity among other things are:
One; that the The wnner of the Zanzibar elections becomes the first president then the 1st loser becomes the 1st vice president and the 2nd loser becomes the 2nd president and the leader of Governemnt Business in House of representatives.
Two; Ministers should be allocated as per seats in the House .For example if a party wins 60 % of the seats , then they shoud have 6% of ministers
Three; Electoral Reforms,
Four; Regional commissioners should only be civil servants not house members
He went on to say that in 2005 there was situation where by two parties had the same strength, CCM and CUF .

This, he sai. led to a lot of political posturing , gesturing and hence violence , rape and loss of property.
Maalim Seif said that by Jan 2000 for the first time Tanzania as a country had produced its own version of approximately 2000 refugees for fled abroad .
He said a window of opportunity was lost on both sides when the president of Tanzania Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete made a pronouncement in Parliament that “Kuna Mpasuko Zanzibar”.
He noted that CUF should not be blamed for the problems of Zanzibar because they also found them there, noting that they kind of inherited them from the past leaders.
"It was after alot of soul searching and consultation that we saw that there is a need to put a stop on all this for the sake of our children, there is no need to go through what we went through."
He spoke about the historic meeting between him on behalf of CUF and the President of Zanzibar H.E Karume and how historic and symbolic it was
"Its a beggining of a new era for our nation.We are tired of fighting", he insisted.
Maalim Seif concluded by saying that the position of CUF is that they fully support Muungano (Union between the mainland and the Isles) , and that he was dedicated to peace and security as these were paramount to the people of Zanzibar.
