The final of the Miss Excellence OUT, 2010 will be held on Friday July 23, 2010 at the temporary headquarters. Already, the pageant, after internal process, has attracted 10 finalists from various OUT regional centres in Tanzania.

Details for the finals including the unveiling of the contestants will be released on July 20, 2010 at a scheduled press meeting.

The pageant, Miss Excellence OUT-2010, is a branded after the Miss Vodacom Tanzania beauty pageant but within the Open University of Tanzania zone the pageant was designed to increase the visibility and enrollment of more girls into the Open University of Tanzania.

Enrolment statistics indicate that a cummulative total of 31,693 undergraduate students have been enrolled with the OUT but of those only 7,509 are women. This is about 21.6 per cent of the total enrolment.

In line with the objective of establishing the OUT, which was to increase the enrolment of women into the higher education in Tanzania, Miss Excellence OUT is an empowering platform.

Last year’s contestants in the maiden Miss Excellence OUT have been empowered to lead the organization of this year’s event including becoming spokespersons for the pageant.

The Open University of Tanzania is a fully fledged and accredited public institution of higher learning that is autonomous and mandated to conduct academic programmes leading to certificate, diplomas, undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications.

The OUT has regional centres in regions of the United Republic of Tanzania and coordinating centres in Zanzibar, Pemba and Nairobi, Kenya.
