Salif Keita, the renowned musical artist hailing from Mali is set to entertain his fans in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, 13 October, 2010 at Movenpick Hotel from 8:30pm to 12.30am. The curtain raisers will be Keisha from Tanzania and Muthoni from Kenya.
Salif Keita is a singer and composer with a special voice, referred as the Golden Voice of Africa and some people regard him as amongst the greatest musical talent Africa has ever produced. With his multiple Grammy nominations, he is also considered one the world music scene’s most popular artists.
Musical instruments that are commonly featured in Keita's work include balafons, djembes, guitars, koras, organs, saxophones, and synthesizers.
In 2009 he released his most successful album called La Difference, the album was dedicated to the struggle of the albino against being victim of human sacrifice and he won the Best World Music 2010 award at the Victoires de la musique.
The artist has recently been appointed an ambassador for an Africa Union Peace & Security, A simple strategy for deploying more resources to address African peace.
He has been vocal and active on issues pertaining to the plight of albinos. The role of African Union Peace and Security under the African Union is the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.
Salif Keita is the chairman of ‘The Salif Keita Global Foundation’ whose main objective is to identify and analyse albino problems to provide sustainable solutions to ease their lives in African societies.
In 2004, he donated 120,000 USD from his concert and album sales for albinos to buy sunscreen and make other donations for the aid of people with albinism in Mali. He has acquired land for his foundation to build a school and health clinic for albinos in Bamako, Mali.
The event is being sponsored by Stanbic Bank and Tusker.
