Commercial Bank of Africa joints the UMOJA ATM service providers
Dar es Salaam, Tuesday 14 December 2010: The Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) Tanzania has launched the Umoja ATM service to provide CBA clients with access to a range of financial transactions and align the bank to the Umoja Switch Consortium.
The Umoja ATM service has positioned CBA on an equal footing with other banks who have already installed the ATMs. By using the ATMs customers would be able to conduct their banking transactions in a public space without the need for a cashier, human clerk or bank teller. The available services within the ATMs include, cash withdrawals, balance enquiries, provision of mini statements, the transfer of funds from one customer account to another and the possibility to change one’s PIN number.
The introduction of these services will enhance the bank’s efficiency by allowing customers to save precious time that would otherwise be lost within the bank. It will give customers more time to be productive in their work and business areas.
According to the CBA acting Head of Projects Mr. Nurdin Semnangwa, “In our strategic plan and this year’s budget we factored in the implementation of the Umoja ATMs and allied services to support customer businesses and help drive the current retail banking business.”
The Umoja Switch Consortium comprises of the following 6 founder banks, namely Azania Bank, Akiba Commercial Bank, Dar es Salaam Community Bank, BOA Bank, Tanzania Investment Bank and Twiga Bancorp. Recently, seven (7) banks have also joined the consortium, including Access Bank, Uchumi Commercial Bank, Tanzania Women’s Bank, Mkombozi Bank, Tanzania Postal Bank, Commercial Bank of Africa and the Peoples’ Bank of Zanzibar, making a total of 13 banks.
The launch of the new service took place at the CBA headquarters at Amani place building.
