THE fourth edition of Mkono Open Junior Tennis Championships kicks off this weekend at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club.
Over 100 junior athletes aged between eight and 18 years from five regions of Tanzania namely Arusha, Morogoro, Dodoma, Coast and host Dar es Salaam will face out for medals and trophies in the two day event courtesy of Honorable Nimrod Mkono, the Member of Parliament of Musoma Rural Constituency.
More enthusiasm is expected as players from Nairobi and Mombasa look set to add more value to the event for the first time in its four year history.
Most of all it will be an opportunity for local players test there prowess ahead of oncoming regional events.
Meanwhile, the visiting ITF Development Officer for East African Tennis Zone Rwandese will on Friday get the opportunity to watch the players and earmark at least two beneficiaries of full sponsorship in education and tennis training from the International Tennis Federation at the East African Tennis Center in Burundi.
Ntwali, who arrived on Tuesday for a four day tour of Tanzania Tennis development initiatives will conduct a training session at the Gymkhana Club tennis grounds upon which the two players aged between 10 – 12 will be earmarked.
