 U.S. Embassy Charge D’Affaires Robert K. Scott (right) addresses a press conference on the 50 anniversary of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the agency's development partnership with the United Republic of Tanzania at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) main campus in Morogoro on October 2011.  Mr. Scott underscored the strong ties between Tanzania and the United States of America dating back to the friendship between former presidents Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere and John F. Kennedy and pledged U.S' continued support to Tanzania with a view to helping Tanzanian help themselves.  Standing in the center is USAID Mission Director Robert F. Cunnane.
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Robert F. Cunnane presents a one million USD check (over 1.6 billion Tanzanian shillings) to the Chairman of the Council of the Sokoine University of Agriculture Ambassador Nicholas Kuhanga.  This was the first direct grant given to a Tanzanian government institution under USAID’s Feed the Future initiative in support of its continued partnership with the university. USAID’s first assistance program in Tanzania was sponsorship for building Sokoine University to promote the nation's agricultural sector.  The Check handing over was part of USAID's 50th Anniversary ceremony held at the University main campus in Morogoro on October 27th, 2011.
