During the 48th Independence celebrations of Kenya commemorated on 12th December 2011, the President of the Republic of Kenya H.E Mwai Kibaki (MP; CGH) awarded Ambassador Juma Vorter Mwapachu (pictured) with the MORAN OF THE ORDER OF GOLDEN HEART (MGH).
This is the third highest honour accorded by the Government of Kenya to any person.
The award is in recognition of Ambassador Mwapachu’s outstanding performance during his tenure of office as the Secretary General of East African Community.
During his tenure he oversaw the implementation of the Customs Union, launched the negotiations of the Common Market Protocol and realized its implementation; launched the on- going negotiations for the establishment of the Monetary Union and put in place a Peace and Security architecture for the East African Community.
The Management and the Community of UDOM, congratulates Ambassador Mwapachu (MGH) who is the Chairman of the University of Dodoma Council for this deserved high achievement and wish him more success in the future.
