Addis Ababa, April 30, 2012 (Addis Ababa) - Prime Minister Meles Zenawi here on Monday received the South African Development Community (SADC) delegation led by Tanzanian Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Bernard Membe.

After the discussion, the Minister told journalists that the aim of the meeting is to consult on the election of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission scheduled to be held at the coming AU Summit in Lilongwe, Malawi in June.

The FM said SADC has decided that South African Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma to be the region’s sole candidate for the post ahead of the elections in the coming June.

The PM Meles on the occasion expressed his desire to see a candidate that unified the continent and the work of the AU.The delegation has also presented a message from the Angolan President Dossantos to PM Meles about the coming AUC Chairperson election, according to an official who attend the meeting.

Prime Minister Meles is member of the Group 8 Committee organized after the January AU Summit to facilitate the situation for the election of the Chairperson in the coming summit.
