On August 29, Acting Public Affairs Officer Roberto Quiroz II (left) welcomed to the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam Dr. George Mwaisondola (right) prior to his trip to the United States under the Fulbright African Research Scholar Program. Dr. Mwaisondola is a lecturer at the Saint Augustine University of Tanzania's (SAUT) Department of Law in Mwanza. He will conduct his exchange program at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill from September 1, 2012 to May 30, 2013. His research will focus on mortgage financing from legal, policy, social, and business perspectives. During his visit, Dr. Mwaisondola expressed his goal to encourage development of mortgage financing in Tanzania. Quiroz lauded Dr. Mwaisondola's academic background and leadership, adding: "As Ambassador Alfonso E. Lenhardt has said, one of the United States' highest priorities in Tanzania is to promote cultural and academic exchanges sponsored by the American people, including the Fulbright Program. Your selection and participation in the program underscores our commitment to promote education in Tanzania, and mutual understanding between the American people and citizens from other nations"

The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas and is sponsored by the United States Department of State's Bureaiu of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
