MISA Tanzania in association with other Freedom of Information Coalition members celebrated the International Right to Know Day at the Karimjee Hall in Dar es Salaam by bringing together ordinary citizens, members of the academia, legal and civil society organizations to discuss issues of the right to Know.
Presentations focused on the importance of Access to Information Law in today's setting and the freedom of the Press versus the Right of People to Know. Later on members of the flow had the chance to discuss these two topics and interesting issues such as press freedom violations, citizen’s involvement in the constitution review process, and access to information in public bodies were raised.
MISA Tanzania launched its report on the Most Open and Secretive public institutions was launched with Ministry of Finance becoming winners of this year's study and Ministry of Legal and Constitution Affairs emerging as the most secretive for year 2012.
Traditional dancers (Mjomba Band) and poet Msafiri Senior with messages on this particular day added color to the event. About 150 people were in attendance.
