16 March 2018, Dar es Salaam – The World Happiness Report was released on March 14, 2018 by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations. While the report, which ranks countries on variables that support well-being, is commissioned by the UN, the data supporting it’s findings was not researched by the UN nor was the report published by the UN. Moreover, the report was compiled by a group of independent experts and does not necessarily reflect the views of the United Nations.
As the UN, we discourage people from crediting us for work that has not been produced by our agencies, funds and programmes as this is counter to academic and journalistic practices. We would like to clarify that reports we release explicitly state that they are published by the UN and are produced in consultation with relevant national and international authorities. Page 3 of the World Happiness Report 2018 reads, “The World Happiness Report was written by a group of independent experts acting in their personal capacities. Any views expressed in this report do not necessarily reflect the views of any organization, agency or programme of the United Nations.”
