The 'Matters Of The Heart’ album is one that singer and songwriter ML hopes will
touch the heart of listeners. The album is a labour of love from an artist whose
work always speaks for itself.
She took her time to compile the album which drops on Friday, 17 March, taking
care to curate its messaging carefully.‘Drunk’ - the first single off her fifth studio album, is another song with cultural influences. She wrote it following discussions that explored the deeper meanings of some of these cultural elements of her heritage.
‘Matters of The Heart’ took ML on a beautiful journey of cultural exploration. In
'Longela', I sing the chorus as it is done at Oshiwambo weddings during the
‘Eemoko’ practice”.
“Longela praises my brother for getting married and in the song, I express my
wish that he experiences a happy marriage. So in this sense, I am singing
Eemoko for our bride”, says ML. ‘Longela’ has been well received by ML’s fans,
with the song growing in popularity on TikTok - especially with wedding-related
content.
The first singles, ‘Give me the light’ and ‘Fiyo Fiyo’ were released in 2022, prior
to the album release. ‘Give me the light’ was inspired after a heart-to-heart with a
fan who struggled with depression, says ML.
‘Matters Of The Heart’ transcends storytelling in many forms. Priding herself as
someone who creates from the heart, she notes that this album perfectly
expresses her perspective on life.
Track 20 on the album, is a collaboration with artists from South Africa
and Tanzania Where DJ Karri and Dayo are on The Track. The song again affirms ML’s passion for making music for the Pan-African audience.
“It can get especially difficult for independent artists like me, but I try to create in
a way that guards my mental wellness. The balancing act of cancelling out the
noise from the outside helped me focus my perspective on every song I made.”
Her wish for anyone who listens to this album is that it speaks to their heart as
much as it moved her
