THE Honorable Minister for Information, Communication, and Information Technology, Nape Nnauye concluded a highly successful visit to Kiteto District on May 13, 2024, in the Namelock ward of Kinua Village. During the visit, the Minister inspected one of the tower constructed by Airtel Tanzania, endorsing the significant progress made in enhancing telecommunications infrastructure in remote and underserved communities.
The tower, part of Airtel's initiative funded by UCSAF and the World Bank under the DTP project, symbolizes a vital step towards improving connectivity in areas that have long been disconnected from vital communication networks. The Minister, impressed by the level of development, commended Airtel Tanzania for its commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering local communities through technology.
Airtel Tanzania, as the pioneering Mobile Network Operator (MNO) involved in this initiative, has successfully completed about 66 towers, including the one in Namelock ward.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Nape said, "The site visit and the inspection of the tower constructed by Airtel Tanzania has been enlightening. Clearly, initiatives like these are pivotal in ensuring that every citizen, regardless of location, has access to essential communication services. I commend Airtel Tanzania for their dedication to this cause, and I am confident that the benefits brought about by this development will positively impact the lives of the locals in Namelock ward and beyond."
He further detailed “Airtel-Namelock tower alongside the other 65 that have started operating, proves how Airtel Tanzania is truly committed to support and achieve the government’s course of bridging the digital divide across the country. I applaud Airtel Tanzania for centering their mission in positively affecting the lives of Tanzanians through their work in telecommunications.”
The impact of these towers on the villagers is expected to be transformative. Improved connectivity will enable villagers to access a wide range of services, including financial inclusion through mobile saving and mobile money services provided by Airtel. Additionally, easy access to loan services via Airtel Money Timiza will further empower the unbanked community.
Furthermore, connectivity will facilitate better healthcare services through mobile health insurance provided by Airtel Afya Bima. Access to communication services, data, and content will also be vastly improved, fostering digital inclusion and providing essential services to every site.
“The activation of these towers represents our unwavering commitment to connect the unconnected and empower communities through technology. We are grateful for the endorsement from the Honorable Minister, which underscores the importance of our efforts in bridging the digital divide and driving socio-economic development.”, said Airtel Business Manager , Salim Ngululu.
The Minister's visit underscores the government's commitment to ensuring that all citizens have access to vital communication infrastructure. It serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts of public and private entities in driving socio-economic development through enhanced connectivity.
