UNESCO experts who arrived in Tanzania to revalidate the Ngorongoro-Lengai UNESCO Global Geopark have visited Karatu and Eyasi divisions to visit Iraqw, Hadzabe and Datoga communities as part of their mission to assess the area's adherence to UNESCO's criteria and its ongoing commitment to preserving the unique cultural, geological, and ecological heritage of the area.
During their visit, which started on Monday, the delegation was given a tour of the future site of the Ngorongoro-Lengai UNESCO Global Geopark Museum and visited Tumaini Junior English Medium Pre and Primary School and Father Lieberman Pre and Primary School, both in Karatu, to observe educational initiatives aimed at making young generations pioneers and future ambassadors of the geopark.
Furthermore, experts visited Iraqw village boma, Datoga and Hadzabe community areas to assess the adherence of UNESCO's criteria and its ongoing commitment to preserving the unique geopark heritage in Tanzania and see how the geopark interacts with the community and supports the preservation of their culture and earth heritage. In this community, the delegation learned history and diverse culture of these tribes.
