The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) has made national history in the natural resources sector after winning the Best Forest Conservation and Biodiversity Protection Award (TPSIA) 2025, an accolade recognizing institutions that have demonstrated positive and sustainable results in safeguarding natural resources.

The award was presented yesterday, 16th December 2025, in Dar es Salaam during a special ceremony held at Mlimani City Hall.

The event was organized by the Tanzania Professional Skills and Innovation Awards (TPSIA) in collaboration with various development stakeholders and the private sector, aiming to recognize and appreciate the contribution and efforts of public institutions in national development.
The chief guest of the ceremony was Hon. Shariff A. Shariff, Minister of Labour and Investment of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, represented by Mr. Hamis Suleiman Mwalimu, Secretary General of the Ministry of Labour and Investment, Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, who officially handed over the award to TFS.
Speaking after receiving the award on behalf of the TFS Commissioner for Conservation, Deputy Commissioner for Conservation and Acting Director of Services, Emmanuel Wilfred, said the win is a testament to the agency’s significant efforts in managing forests and protecting biodiversity for the benefit of the nation and future generations.

“We thank the organizers of this award for recognizing the great work done by TFS in forest conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable management of forest resources. This win is a sign that our efforts are visible and appreciated,” said Wilfred.

He added that the award serves as a catalyst for accelerating performance, including strengthening the fight against forest destruction, illegal logging, and promoting community involvement in conservation.

“This award motivates us to work even harder, with professionalism and accountability, to ensure that Tanzania’s forests are protected and continue to serve as a pillar of the country’s economy, environment, and the wellbeing of our citizens,” he added.

According to TPSIA Committee Chair, Steven Mkomwa, TFS was selected based on tangible results in implementing conservation policies and strategies, including strengthened protection of forest reserves, increased revenue from forests, and its contribution to addressing climate change.
