Sikatai it's good to eat healthy and live a healthy lifestyle and we must develop such a culture in Tanzania. Ila twue na constructive means to deliver such a message to the people. Sio kila kitu mnapondaponda tu, inaboa kwakweli. besides, the most important thing to eating healthy is moderation; make sure you get the right serving of each food group; keep your sugar and cholesterol levels at the recommended level; exercise, etc. Umeona tu hapa kuku na nyama choma unaanza kuwaponda hawa watu. Unajuaje kama it's their only serving of meet kwa siku hiyo? Au for a few days. Even if you are on an all fruit-veges and fibre-rich grain diet; inakuwa haina maana kama bado utakula kupita kipimo. Even too much of apples is bad.
So naomba please, mtutolee ushamba wenu na muache kupondaponda tu kila mkiona kitu toka Tanzania. Watu walioko Tanzania wana an even more healthy life-style and have far less to worry about kutokana na typa ya chakula wanachokula kuliko baadhi yenu mnaoponda na kupaka humu. Kwa mantiki hiyo kuna wengine wanaweza kufa for dietary reasons because they can't afford to eat any better, au because of working conditions, exposure to toxicants and unfavorable conditions (vijini wanapikia moshi; katika urban area wako exposed na polution za kila aina za viwanda, migodi katika small, semi-urban mining towns and settlements), tunajua malaria bado ni #1 killer duniani na ina-affect zaidi tropical countries ambazo mainly ni poor countries; Ukimwi unaongoza kwa maambukizo Africa na kutokana na umasikini na ukosefu wa AVR watu wanakufa mapema; etc. With all due respect, kurukia hapa na kusema watu wanakufa mapema kwa ajili ya dietary choices bila kuangalia umaskini wa nchi kiujumla is (pardon my french), rather retarded. Ndugu zangu, kama mnataka kuelimisha umma wa watanzania juu ya kula vyema ni vizuri sana. Ila mtumie lugha ya kistaarabu na muache dharau; mtasikilizwa na somo litaeleweka. Mnaweza kuchangia fedha au ujuzi kwa NGO na Wizara watoe elimu na misaada ya kuimarisha lishe kwa wananchi. Kama huna uwezo wa kufanya hivyo, unaweza kudraft maada vizuri na ukamuomba Michuzi akaiweka hapa watu wakaijadili na wakajifunza. Ila mnapokuja kwa style ya mbwemwbe nakujifanya mnajua ndio hapo mnapowakwaza watu.
PS: For what it's worth, I lived abroad for a number of years and now I am back home working. I do enjoy nyama choma and an occasional beer, but I also try to balance my diet well; watch my weight and I jogg, work out a lil' and play pick up sports on weekends. I do know what I am talking about.
