SaskTel International Awarded Management Contract In Tanzania

REGINA, May 24 /CNW/ - SaskTel International (SI) has been awarded a three-year management contract of up to $5.0 million (CDN) by the Parastatal Sector Reform Commission (Government of Tanzania) to manage all aspects of the operations, maintenance and expansion of Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL) in order to improve the company's financial, commercial and technical performance.
"Sharing expertise with the world by delivering world-class network consulting and project management services enables SaskTel International to continue bringing revenue back home to benefit the people of Saskatchewan," Deb Higgins, Minister Responsible for SaskTel said. "SaskTel International continues to strengthen its stature in the international consulting field and it is strongly positioned for any future business in this field."
"The decision to put TTCL under new management was reached by its shareholders who saw that as part of the best strategy to make it run more efficiently in the prevailing free market economy," said Infrastructure Development Minister Andrew Chenge. "SaskTel International has a history of strong management experience in the telecommunications sector both within and outside Tanzania and we are pleased to award this management contract to them."
"For twenty years now SaskTel has been going beyond its borders to generate revenue and apply its expertise in other parts of the world," Robert Watson, SaskTel President and CEO said. "SI has a strong history of helping clients around the globe develop, improve and expand their telecommunications systems and we are extremely pleased with this new fee-for-service contract."
SaskTel International will deploy several key management resources to Tanzania to oversee fulfillment of this long term contract. In addition, SI will be able to provide additional support resources to assist in other areas of the company which are to be identified by the proposed SI management team and with the assistance of key support personnel in Saskatchewan.
