After a very well attended concert on January 4th by participants of workshops with teachers from Palestine, DCMA invites to its teachers concert on January 16th.
Teachers concerts were initiated by DCMA to showcase the key instruments used in traditional Zanzibari Music as well as to create opportunities for teachers and students to perform. The admission fees are a donation of the performing teachers to the school and will be used to update the library.
Rajab Suleiman will present classical Arabic pieces on the Qanun. He will be accompanied by his fellow teachers, Øystein Bru Franzen on bass and piano, Mahsin Ally Salim on percussion. And DCMA student - and member of the Tanzania’s National Group in the Umoja Flying Cultural Carpet Project - Ismail Muhsin will join in on the oud.

Coming from a musical family Rajab Suleiman started to play music about 10 years ago. After studying accordeon and keybord he switched to qanun. He experimented with different musical styles like Chakacha and Kidumbaki and has been a qanun teacher at DCMA since its beginning. As a member of the Culture Musical Club he toured Japan and Europe for several times. He is also a member of Baladna, Safar and the National Taarab Group.
