  3. Ni huduma nzuri kwa kweli...na itawawezesha wengi haswa wa vijijini kuweza kusave hela kulipa bills etc..lakini haijabuniwa wala kuletwa na voda hapa mchini kwa mara ya kwanza..kuna vijana watanzania wameangaika tangu mwaka jana bila mafanikio na voda waliwatupa kutoa huduma hii..

  4. Tanzania's place in the Mobile Revolution

    THE possibility of ever having the ability to communicate from anywhere anytime would have been seen as a far-fetched pipe dream to most Tanzanians just ten years ago, yet today the sheer thought of living without a mobile phone is enough to create waves of terror in these same people. Why has the mobile phone become such a large part of the way Tanzanians live their lives? In fact, how did the mobile phone become so intertwined with Tanzanian culture?

    If one can recall, about ten years ago when the original mobile network was launched, i.e. Mobitel, Tanzanians were extremely skeptical of this new fangled contraption, and those who were adventurous enough to try out this new piece of technology either approached it with kid-gloves or thought they were part of an elitist class that this technology was designed for. The exclusivity of this toy was no better defined than by the initial launch slogan, "How's the weather in London?" Most Tanzanians at that time were unable to even find out the weather in their own country. When did things begin to change?

    After a relatively long period of few subscribers and limited revenue, mobile phone operators in the country decided to change their tact, they realized that it was not the wealthy few, but rather the average Tanzanian that really could benefit from mobile services, hence so would they. It was the beginning of the mobile phone revolution.

    Mobile phone subscribers steadily increased and slowly the networks were expanding giving users accessibility from wherever they were in the country. Channels of communication were built between family members that could rarely meet in person, business contacts could now be contacted without physically meeting them, and the country was getting connected.

    As the demand for mobile communication increased, so did innovation, new services and ways of using the mobile phone were being developed all the time. Ingenuity in the way people approached their lives was unrelenting, the livelihood of millions improved by the day. Mobile technology was quickly becoming the new frontier of development, Tanzania embraced the power and potential and created an arena in which every man could be a part of, and mobile technology became instrumental in the democratization of information.

    Recently, International Food and Agricultural Development, IFAD launched a pilot project with rural farmers called the Firstmile project in which farmers were encouraged to use mobile phones to text prices of farm produce from urban markets back to the village so that they could get value for their money when selling their produce. This has proved useful to rural farmers who were able to double and sometimes triple their profits unlike in the past where they were ignorant of the real market value of their produce.

    Finally the mobile phone has assumed a very important use to boost economy unlike in the past where it simply served the purpose of communicating with family or friends just to check on each other's health.

    Likewise, E-fulusi Africa, a Tanzanian company has seen it necessary to add another function to the mobile phone so as to boost economy further. With E-fulusi's mobipawa account, an account which can be operated using one's mobile phone regardless of handset type or service provider, one can open and operate a bank account which can be used both to save and transfer cash to account as well as non account holders. More services are yet to be added to the E-fulusi mobipawa banking solution in the next six to eight months.

    Access to banking services has always been very difficult in rural areas, however with the advent of Mobile banking services the provision of financial services to a previously under-serviced, disregarded segment of society has become possible.

    There are only an approximate one million banked customers in Tanzania; the rest of the population has almost no access to the financial services which creates a progressive economy. They have no documented credit history, no savings possibilities and to transfer money to their loved ones they must risk insecure methods or pay preposterous service charges to transfer agencies.

    These are problems that have been tormenting the Tanzanian population, with few solutions in sight, until recently. E-Fulusi (T) Africa, trading under the name Mobipawa has created a complete Mobi-Banking solution from concept to creation of the actual system. The Mobipawa account allows you to open an account where you can deposit and save your money, as well as have access to additional financial services such as money transfer all accessible through your mobile phone. The mobile revolution has completely cemented its place in the evolution of Tanzania.

  8. Thanks Michu for timely information. jamani kuweni wa kweli hawa vijana wa kitanzania wamechemsha wenyewe kwani VODA aliwazuia kufanya wanachotaka. Wameachiwa tangu mwaka jana na bado hatuoni mambo, tumezoea kubweteka tu huu ni wakati wa mashindano watu hawalali. Wacha M-Pesa watuonyeshe mambo, by the M-Pesa is a brand name tu, siyo eti ni ya wa kenya hii niya Verifone (UK) ila sema imeanzia kenya. Kwani West Union ni ya Kenya mbona ilianzia kenya kabla ya kuja bongo ndiyo tuseme ni ya kenya???, someni tovuti yao kwanza mpate background kabla ya kulalamika.

    Kwa faida ya jamaa aliyetaka ufafanuzi hapo juu: hii inafanya kazi kama vile tunavyotumiana air time, yaani utaenda kwa agent wa voda utanunua electronic money utatuma kwa unayetaka kama vile unavyo tuma airtime, akipata kule anaenda kwa agent aliye karibu naye anapata equivalent in cahs.     From what I know, Mobipawa walikuwa wanatumia mitandao yote iliyopo Tanzania, Vodacom kuzindua huduma hii haina ubaya wowote, hata kama infanana kiaina fulani na hiyo ya Mobipawa. Sio lazima kusupport katika dunia hii ya ushindani au vipi Michu? na hiyo huduma sio ya Wakenya, hii ni bidhaa ya Vodafone ya Uingereza, ni kwa uchache wa ufahamu nilioupata kwa watani wetu wa jadi. Kenya walianza na Tanzania wanafuatia. Ila sasa na nyie Vodacom mtueleze vizuri tutafaidika vipi sisi wabongo. Mimi ninawafahamu Watani wetu wa jadi waliofaidika haswaa kwa hii bidhaa si unajua tena mambo ni kujituma, je mtafanya wenyewe kama kawaida yenu au mtatukaribisha na Wabongo tufaidike? NA hao mobipawa wameishia wapi?

  10. Mobipawa is facilitated by SMS, which is a mobile / cellular service, so the comment that Vodacom is not supporting Mobipawa is rubbish.
    Lazima watu wajue kuwa hao mobipawa wanawatumia hata wateja au mtandao wa Vodacom, sasa mnaposema hawakuwa support siwaelewi, kama hawakuwa na mipango endelevu ni tabu hiyo. Viajana walifanya kazi nzuri kuleta huduma, ila wakashindwa wenyewe sasa kwanini Vodacom alaumiwe?
