To my fellow Eastafricans,
I hereby rest my case by still insistingthat we need the federation for cooperation is the only thing that canguarantee the future of the Black African. I however caution that ifTanzanians will insist on keeping out then we (Ugandans) and theKenyans, Southern Sudan Rwanda and Burundi might be forced to go onwith our union until such a time that you people might be ready.

I would also like to encourage Tanzanians to explore the region(EastAfrica) and know more about the region and its peoples. For itdoesnt help for you to tour and live in London, Newyork and the restof them and yet you know very little about say Uganda, Kenya and therest.

I now rest my case and hope that the almighty gives every one of youthe wisdom to move away from your myopic view of some of these thingsthat are obvious.

    Kakuru,

You forgotten one important thing, that there is no such thing called East Africa Community without United Republic of Tanzania.

It is Tanzania which make Uganda and Kenya to sit in one Table, and it is Tanzania which make Rwanda and Uganda to sit in one Table...

So please take a breath and do your home.

    Before writing to us.

so you say that we tanzanians have a "myopic view of obvious things"

dont you think by doing that you are insulting every tanzanian , and you are killing the spirit of debate you initially wanted to establish?
at this level you have to put your case and debate for it, let us get convinced. do not insult us.

i fell that you have boiled over and its a signal of failing to convince your audience..

    Thanx Kakuru,
whatever you say it is fine, but I am sorry that you do not want to understand where we stand...you can go on with your revolutionary ideas, but we have to think first for the majority of our people who are still poor and produce using pebble tools in the villages b4 we embark that EAC thing

I know that our political leaders have already made their decision, but one thing l would like to assure you is that it is going to be a hard way to go...

all the best, thought you have described us as primitive so to speak...

Hi Tanzanians! Do you really understand this Kakuru guy from Uganda! Have been following his arguments from day one but I dont think either of them holds water at all. Does he thinks that we do not know what it means by Federation? Does he thinks that Tanzanians do not understand the pros and cons of the Federation. The thing that this guy from Uganda needs to know is that we are the founders of Unity in East Africa since then by Mwalimu Nyerere but I dont want to dwell in that point, only to use it to remind the guy that When we talk about Union matters in East Africa we as Tanzanians understand it much better more than Kakuru thinks.
Mr Kakuru you dont have any reason at all to despise the opinion of Tanzanians on the Federation issue. We need to define the parameters of the Federation before we get into it! Are you there! It is our right to do so. Again we have the right to know what are our chances when we get into Federation. It is our right as well. It is not the way you put that we are afraid of Kenyans and Ugandans. It is obvious that there are somethings one need to take risk but not our sovereignty! Remember this. Federation is not like business where one would accept the concept of risk taking...Ooh dear friend from Uganda get it right. We have every reason to protect our land, our resources and everything for Tanzania. We need our time to question our leaders and those who represnt us in Federation talks and sometimes help them understand the efects of the Federation beforehand, because we know after Federation we will not have anyone to ask on Tanzania's resources as they will no longer be Tanzania's but East Africa's. Get me right. The decisions we make today should not punish the Tanzania's next generation, we love our country and for that matter we dont need to rush into things before giving them critical analysis. If you interpret this to be cowardness then that is your judgment to which I believe Tanzanians respect but not persuaded to trust. By the way can you show me any initiatives done by you to solve the problems in Uganda before seeing the problems Tanzanians have in accepting the Federation. One among lots of our worries is the political stability in East Africa including your country Uganda (Nothern Uganda) plus Democracy practice in your country. Can you in any way tell me and Tanzanians initiatives you have made so far to solve these problems before convincing Tanzanians to get into Federation, or you want to tell me and Tanzanians that we just need to ignore this or the Federation wil automatically solve this!Oooh cammon!!!friend be holistic we have all the reasons to know the impact of Federation on us as Tanzanians. Federation Yes but not Fast Track Federation.
Hope this time you will understand. All the best in building Uganda.

    Kakuru,

It is quite unfortunate that we have to be insulted in a Tanzanian blog by a character based on ungrounded remarks. These emotional remarks were based on too much generalization and I have failed to see you put up a strong case to support your views/ arguments.

First, You need to apologize for inferring to Tanzanians as just the Diaspora living where-ever in the world. I am a Tanzanian and I know so little about my country. By just admitting that, that does not make me USELESS. Everyone has a right to know, learn and live wherever they prefer. Just because we differ with your views doesn't mean you have a right to label us myopic.

Secondly, I will prefer seeing you treating people with more dignity. If you believe the process is wrong, report to the respective authorities. Unfortunately, that’s the price we all pay with democracy. We get the right to decide what we want that is not necessarily pleasant to others at times. And still no one has a right of name-calling any Nation for practising their rights.

It is impossible to have East African Community without Tanzania.

Go and ask your President Museveni he will tell you who helped him to be who he is today! Certainly not Kenyans!

Tanzania made Museveni,Kagame,Nkurunzinza and Odinga.I don`t know about you Kakara.

All countries want Tanzania. But Tanzanians are satisfied with their country they don`t want Kenya,Uganda,Rwanda or Burundi for the moment.Even if these countries provide free citizenship Very few Tanzanian will take that opportunity. But if Tanzania dares to povide free citizenship many Ugandans will flow in Tanzania kuja kuganga njaa.

It is because of lack of manners that is why Idd Amin toutured them in Uganda to instill displine in people like Kakuru who lack manners when they communicate.

When it comes to communication manners Ugandans lead in bad communication manners than all countries in East africa whether they communicate publically or privately.

Better we get rid of this Kakuru, because he can't teach us about unity. He and his fellow Ugandans have to learn what unity is first. We were the first to see the importance of unity before them, and tried to put it in action, but they, together with Kenyans were the main causes of the collapse of our ideas.
Now they are thinking as if they are the most braingifted thinkers when it comes the issue of federation!,come on you guy, progress is a slow process, let us be wise by taking this issue slowly so that we can analye all the risks before we commit ourselves to federation.
We are brave more than what you think, that is why we are strongly disapoint your fasttracking aproach es for the benefits of all East Africans.
So take this time to sorts your differences

Kakuru, Kakuuuru kijana wangu.

Hayo yakiisha ndipo basi muungano uje. So, ahsante kwa kuzima koleo, japo wahenga walisema "kizima koleo sio mwisho wa uhunzi". haya nenda zako ukawapashe na wengine habari ili kazi ya kuyatokomeza niloyataja ianze mara moja. kadiri mnavyokaa na kumimina viingera tu humu bloguni, ndivyo muungano unavyochelewa pia. Shime Waganda, kumekucha.

    Inshallah

  15. I have followed closely the initial debate, started by Mr. Kakuru, as well as the reactions that followed that post, however, this is my first time posting a comment.
It is sad to see this discussion taking a bad turn and tempers flaring up, because us; Tanzanian, Kenyan and Ugandan citizens need to engage into such debates more often and come up with suggestions for our leaders on how to go about this Federation thing.

I am personally a staunch supporter of the Union as I believe regional cooperations are vital for the economic emancipation of Sub-Saharan Africa. However, we need to be very careful as to how we go about implementing it. Careful thought need to be given to the pros and cons for each country as well as to the Community as a whole. It is unfortunate however, that for political reasons, the process keeps getting fast-tracked just to please an elite few, without regard to the citizens' views or expert advice. A good example is with the issue of Rwanda and Burundi being indicted to the Union. There is a committee of experts in vital sectors such as customs, transportation, etc. whose responsibilities include advising the head of states and the ministerial council on important issues. When the committee was consulted in regards to the question of fast-tracking the process of giving Rwanda and Burundi full membership; it was unanimously agreed that that decision should be put on hold first until we see how this thing works out between the 3 founding members first. However; against all expert advice, our leaders went ahead and decided to grant Rwanda and Burundi full membership anyway.

It is this constant rushed decision making that alarms some concerned citizens. When Tanzanians remember how much they lost and suffered after the collapse of the initial EAC; coupled with frequent instability and misunderstandings from various parts of the rest of East Africa, it is only understandable that Tanzanians chose to approach the EAC idea with caution. In particular, most Tanzanians, including those of us who support EAC, have stated that a full political federation is still a long way to go. Let us work on consolidating the market; customs and immigration; movement of labor; etc first.

Mr. Kakuru mentioned that Tanzanians are afraid of taking chances. Interestingly, the post came about a couple of days after I posted another discussion about the matter on my blog. Whatever your views are on this; I would just like to point out one thing, like any business venture; one analysis the risks involved vs the potential rewards. And each person has a different risk-aversion/risk-tolerance measure depending on how much they have to lose/gain. When Tanzanians analyze the state we are in; how much we have to lose; and how much we have to gain, we feel that the formation of the federation needs to take one step at a time. That does not make us more cowardly than Kenyans/Ugandans; nor does it make our brothers up North braver than us.

At the end of the day, I think all citizens of East Africa needs to keep such discussions going; and let us find a way to make our voices heard to our leaders. It is us, the people who should decide what way, shape and form should the EAC take, and no one else

Kwa kweli ndugu kakuru unahitaji kutuomba msamaha.
To my understanding lack of wisdom implies that we are fools who lack either the common sense or the knowledge/education needed to make appropriate decisions! That is so uncalled for. I advice you to learn the basics of arguing politely to nail your points more firmly. I would have understood if you had written "...give US ALL the wisdom..." which would include and anybody else one can think of.
You have not only proved to be shallow but very immature!

Umekuwa ukinsist kuwa Watanzania wako abroad warudi nyumbani, ninasoma nchi ya western and here, there are so many Ugandans and Kenyans than Tanzanians. In the future, try to collect enough data and statistics when you want to publish something strong in public. Be cautious, your views might be taken to represent Ugandans thoughts and this could harm more what you have been preaching about!

NOTE:Definitions of wisdom on the Web:

    - accumulated knowledge or erudition or enlightenment
the trait of utilizing knowledge and experience with common sense and insight
    - ability to apply knowledge or experience or understanding or common sense and insight
    - the quality of being prudent and sensible

Kakuru has to know that one he posts something for public discussion then he should clear all doubts first. So dont waste our valuable and precious time bwana Kakuru. Tanzanians have a lot to do whether in or outside our beautiful Tanzania. Who is coward here you have brought the matter on table yet you can not defend it to the end. Go and use that time to build Uganda. Achana na sisi WaTZ unatumind...
