Earlier this year, the director of the theatre school “Theater Zeppelin” from Hamburg (Germany) came to Zanzibar to present “The jumping mouse” one of her theatre play / story telling session to children in Zanzibar.
And then, in a month long workshop she and the DCMA teacher Said Vuai developed together “Sisimizi”, a story telling / theatre play with music for children of nursery and early primary school age. The play is based on an African tale and premiered here in Zanzibar in March and was played at the DCMA several times.
But co-operations should go both ways. And that’s why “Sisimizi” is now traveling to Germany. In September Said Vuai will perform Sisimizi six times in Hamburg and other town in Northern Germany as well as hold two African drumming workshops, to introduce German children to an African story and music.
After coming back from Germany, DCMA plans to send “Sisimizi” also to the Tanzanian mainland.
