so in my own opinion i prefer a fast browser then mambo ya privacy is an individual matter kwa mfano watu wengine wanapendelea ku tweak network connection zao wao wenyewe unanunua hardware firewall then huhitaji hata hiyo IE8.
kwa hiyo zote ni nzuri ila naamini kuwa IE8 inakufa soon maana hii tech waliyoitumia hawa jamaa ni noma sana na i can assure you this is just the beginning !

ReplyDeleteSijawahi kuona mbongo ame produce software or anything so keep it on your self. when is open source that means you will get advantage as a programmer or software engineer to be able to play around with the source code of the mentioned software. Otherwise if you are not like i said above then the so called open source is like a dream.
At end of the day you don't pay for anything on IE8 BETA or google chrome. Technical thinking and experience, IE8 BETA is the best of the best, Father and mother of all browsers.

ReplyDeleteI respectfully have to disagree with your argument. By your logic, one has to be a mechanic to know that a certain car make is better than another; and a mere driver is incapable to make such observations.
There is a saying by George Bernard Shaw that goes, “Although i cannot lay an egg, I am a very good judge of omelettes.” Or a variation of it (I believe from Mwalimu Nyerere) which goes something like, "siwezi kutaga yai, lakini najua yai visa nikiliona".
Like Mdau Sweden has pointed out, using (and apprecating) open source software doesn't mean you have to be part of the development process. Some of my friends who have a very basic knowledge of computers (interenet; wordprocessing and a few aplications) but no formal training (at least none at degree or even diploma level) have come to like and appreciate different OSS; I won't go into a whole lecture about the merits of usinf OSS; but I will just mention a couple: stability as any bugs are caught and corrected right away; whereas with the alternative, once the alpha version has been released, the bugs will not be fixed untill the developer releases the next version (or at least a patch of the current); whenever that will be. 2nd, customizability. This feature also enables forking and robust development of new software. The list goes on and on. There are also cons to OSS ofcourse; but in my opnion, the pros outweigh the cons. I am a Mathematician and I have time and again been a beneficiary of some of the best OSS products like LaTeX, Open Office, xfig, emacs, etc; and I say long live GNU!! :-)
In regards to your question on whether we are software engineers/developers:
I am not an authority figure on software engineering by any means; but I do have a minor in computer science from my 1st degree; I do a bit of software development for math use. And I do lab development work for some computer courses. With my PCs at home and my office I use both Linux and Windows; whereas in the math dept at my school we use macs. So I have used a variety of producst out there and know a thing or two

I self taught web development too and back then while I was doing my under graduate degree as a project tulifanya au kuendeleza kazi ambayo tuliikuta kudevelop software ya medical billing na hiyo software inafanyiwa experimental kwenye hospitals na companies kadhaa hapa USA since last year....
Back to the discussion ...I think all browsers are the same.... fast, secure and all will take you to the same place "the Internet" but each one is suitable for different things...
IE8 is still in the experimental state but it is a full featured browser and looks good on the user surface but behing the scenes it is the worst.
Chrome to me sucks out loud too and is a very minimal browser with not too many features. Only for the open source reason and the engine they use to me it will even be better than IE8.
I personally like FIREFOX on my PC and Safari on my MAC....
And FYI IE and Chrome spy on you

ReplyDeleteAbout mbongo wa kudesign software, yes that is true and too shame for all software engineers and programmers at udsm and those who are outside the country. In order to find if they have done so, try to check on every launch of any softwares, they always mentioned the origins and the names of people who contributed to make it happen.
About wikipedia thing, try not to use it has wikipedia is open articles whereby anyone can write anything without having knowledge of that thing. It happened here in UK when one university student took one of the articles to support her research and she was failed and now on most of universities they banned wikipedia to be used by their students cause some of the articles are not 100% containing the truth.
The article that was taken by that student was writen by one person claimed that he was a prof. from US while from matter facts he was not a prof. at all, even he does not hold even one degree.

Just pia sio rahisi kuamini kwamba open source itakuwa the same years to come. nakumbuka redhat linux was open source nasasa sio tena! who knows hapo baadae when these products wamepata popularities?? pia open source haina mwenyewe hasa ambaye you can hold responsible pale mambo hayapo sawa! with proprietary software atleast tunajuwa who to blame and sue when things are not right.
