Tommy Taylor Samm

I would like to thank the people of Tanzania for their kindness during my
six weeks with the Tanzania
soccer academy. Tanzania is a beautiful country
and the warmth shown to myself by everyone means it will always have a
special place in my heart.
I have made many friends and would like to thank
Coach Kaijage and John Mwangakala, Dr Dau, for the friendship and support.
Before I went to Tanzania I found out all I could about the current level of
football, there is not a lot of information available which highlights a
lack of exposure.
One article I did find was an interview with His
Excellency, the Hon. J.M. Kikwete on his views for sports development
(http://www.tanzaniasports.com/?p=16) that
gave me a lot of confidence that things are moving in the right direction
and after this trip I believe their is massive potential and great players
that deserve the chance to play European football and help the country
qualify for the World cup 2014, but there is still a lot of work.

The academy players were a joy to work with and the academy has created a
family unit and a hard working professional outfit that should make everyone
proud. There are several players that I feel have the potential to play
professional football in Europe, reports have been made to clubs and trials
are being arranged.
We are looking forward to bringing the players to
England to showcase their talent. The trip will increase the profile of
Tanzania in world football.

I have agreed to take over as coach of Grenada for the CONCACAF Gold Cup,
with the first game against the USA in Seattle on July the 4th and I am
looking forward to discussing sports development as with a population of
only 110,000 they have a FIFA ranking of 103, I will obviously continue to
work with the TSA players to assist with their development and feel the
future is bright.
I would be happy to answer any questions they have you can
email me

Asante sama Ndugu zangu watanzania!

I am a Tanzanian living in London and after reading this story I checked the FIFA rankings to see where Tanzania is ranked. Grenada is ranked above Tanzania with only 110,000 people, our population is 39 million. What have we been doing? World Cup qualification for 2014 is not going to be possible unless we work fast and get players to Europe. I hope Mr. Taylor shares the information from Grenada with us for sports development on what they do right, because to be honest when such a small population has a higher ranking than ourselves we should be embarrassed. I ask everyone WHAT ARE WE DOING?
I am pleased with his findings at the Academy but we need more of them all over the country and someone in charge who can make things happen.
