Tanzania's Minister for Community Development, Gender and Children Ms Margaret Sitta, opens the two-day Conflict prevention, mediation and peace building training workshop for senior women leaders at the Beachcomber hotel in Dar es salaam today. Some 40-plus delegates from Burundi, Rwanda, DRC, Uganda and Tanzania are taking part in the workshop organised by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Regions in collaboration with the Tanzania government and UNIFEM

THE mediation training workshop for women leaders in the Great Lakes Region began today, with participants asking for more involvement in all stages of prevention, mediation and peace processes.

They also expressed the hope that member states would consider having more women in decision making stages and participation in the peace building process, giving it priority in order to meet the inherent challenges.
