The Managing Director nof the National Development Cor (second left) Corporation (NDC) Mr. Gideon John Nasari (second left) and the General Manager of the Henan No.1 Thermal Power Construction Company (HPPC) from China Mr. Zhou Zhiqiang signning a Memorandum of Understading in Dar es salaam today relating to the establishment of a power generation plant of 400 megawatts using coal to be mined from the Ngaka Coal Mine in Songea, Ruvuma region, which is under NDC. According to NDC's Corporate Affairs Officer, Mrs Neema Mbuja, under the contract HPCC will undertake a bankable feasibility study to build, operate and later on transfer the 400 mw coal fired generation power generation plant, construction of the proposed 300km transmissson line and connect it the national grid and hence upgrade and strenghthen parts of the national grid.

ReplyDeleteIt would have been nice to know the length of the BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) and what type of a coal-fired plant is being planned, and how long it will take to build and start operations.
One of the biggest problems with a coal fired plant is pollution, but given the changing technology around the world, a better type and less pollutant coal fired plant can be build effectively albeit at approximately 33% more, worth it to my opinion.
