Dear Ms Shyroe-Bhanji,
I am a blogging enthusiast and my specific interest is development issues pertaining to different parts of the world particularly my native country of Tanzania. My passion for economic trends has inevitably made me to closely follow-up political atmospheres of different countries because of the unique way that development and politics inter-relate.
A few days ago I came across an online debate on Facebook that you initiated in which you described yourself as a ‘CCM cadre and a passionate citizen’.
You expressed a profound sense of being let down by the President and challenged the President to offer answers so as to put to rest the people’s outcries. I take some issues with that stance and that is what prompted me to jot down a few lines to you.
Ms Shy-Rose, I appreciate the fact that you made it absolutely clear that you supported and campaigned for the President’s candidacy in 2010. A bitter and brutal reality about politics is that at times political party’s interests tend to be in conflict with national interests, when you stood behind the President in 2010, where was your loyalty, to the party and by default the party’s candidate or to the nation and citizens? If the latter is the case I would humbly request you to give us a few compelling reasons why you felt that it was in the interest of the country to support the President out of all the Presidential contestants. What specifically changed from what you knew back in 2010 to what you know today to justify questioning the performance of the President today? When a critical thinker disagrees with the thoughts and position of others it warrants an attempt to understand the basis of the different point of view that you may not agree with, what was fundamentally wrong with the judgment and assessment of the 39% of the Tanzanian voters who did not give the President a vote of confidence in last year’s elections? Since you were bold and brave enough to criticize the President publicly are you equally willing to make a public admission that your judgment and the judgment of 60% of the 2010 voters was utterly wrong and that you are actually part of the problem you are lamenting about?
Ms Shy-Rose, in 2010 the incumbent President was standing for re-election so obviously he was not a newcomer. His performance and record was public information for any interested party to assess and judge. Today you claim that you now see a ‘vacuum on the leadership’, how is the current administration different from the first term of the President to justify such a categorization? What are your specific expectations that the President did not deliver in less than a year since he took office and what is the basis of your expectations?
It is my understanding that you aspired and contested for a legislative seat back in 2010 on CCM ticket. I am afraid to say that your style and approach of criticism on the President raises some serious questions on your own ability to manage the sophistications of politics and leadership. A great leader is expected to take responsibility for his or her actions. Having participated to convince voters that the President was the best choice and in less than a year you are telling us that he has let you down is deeply disturbing. It makes serious readers question whether or not your sentiment of being let down is attributable to sincere concerns for the prosperity and well-being of the nation or if all this ranting and raving is triggered by disappointment of a failed self-fulfilling political prophecy conveyed under the pretext of national interest!

ReplyDeleteKwa kweli mimi nakubaliana na hoja zako. Nimegundua watu wengi wanachanganya personal ambitions na national interests. Huyu dada ShyRose ninamuheshimu sana lakini kwa hili nadhani amekosea. Yeye kama kada wa ccm tumia vikao vya chama kutoa maoni, yeye kama mtu maarufu halafu controversal si vizuri kumlaumu kiongozi wa nchi bila hoja zenye mashiko. Baada ya kukosa ubunge labda ungepewa ukuu wa wilaya au ukuu wa mkoa tungeweza kuona uwezo wako. Kulaumu ni rahisi kila mtu anaweza.
With all the respect to sister Shy rose, i believe she is preparing for a departure from CCM. My advice is, since it is your right to do so, why are making excuses? Just call the media and do it peaceful. You started with Mr. Makamba, now that he is gone you are jumping on somebody else. Please exercise your constitutional right without making enemies

Jamani kwa heshima na taadhima naomba nichukue nafasi hii kutoa maoni yangu machache tuu juu ya sakata hili la maoni aliyetoa kada maarufu wa CCM Bi Shyrose Bhanji , kwanza naomba tukubaliane kuwa aliyotoa ni maoni yake na ana haki za kikatiba kama raia wa Tanzania kusema kile kilicho kifuani kwake japo kinaweza kuwa kwaza wengine tukitambua hilo sasa naomba nichukue nafasi hii kujielekeza kwenye maada zaidi.
ReplyDeleteKatika maoni yake bi shyrose amezungumzia mambo kadhaa yaliyokuwa katika ilani ya chama ambayo yalipewa kipaumbele cha kutekelezwa katika kipindi hiki cha 2010-2015 ambayo yeye kwa mtazamo wake yeye ameyaona yanaanza kuchukua sura nyingine na huenda yasitekelezeke katika hili sioni kabisa kwa kada wa chama kuzungumzia yale anayoyaona na migogoro iliyopo ndani ya chama chake katika yale aliyozungumza alijikita zaidi sehemu ambazo wote tunajua kero zake haswa wakati wa janga la mafuta na kero za upatikanaji wa umeme kwa mtazamo wangu mimi pia niliona ni wakati fursa kwa mtu yoyote mwenye uchungu na nchi yake alipaswa kutoa dukuduku lake .
Hitimisho nimefwatia hii sakata kwa muda wote na kugundua kuwa wale wote waliokuwa hawakubaliani na maoni ya Shyrose japo ana haki kama raia yoyote wa Tanzania kuanza kumshutumu kuwa kwa kuwa kura zake hazikutosha katika uchaguzi wa jimbo la ubunge la kinondoni basi kaamua kutofautiana na wakuu wake wa kichama , hoja za kada Shyrose zichukuliwe kama changamoto katika Tanzania tuitakayo mbele ya safari mficha maradhi makovu humuumbua sasa tulipe nafasi swala lake kwa mtazamo huo ili demokrasia iwe na na ustawi zaidi.

You saw her comments on Facebook, which suggests you are in her friend's list, but was to afraid to respond to it from Facebook, for then we will all know who you are.
ReplyDeleteMajority view vs. minority view, you question the rights of 39% against 61% who voted for the current president. I guess as a rule of thumb, when the majority think you are incompetent, well you are incompetent even if you think you are not (no reference to the election here but maybe to the article).
I don't see anything wrong with her freedom to criticize the President for not performing even if its for a period of 1 year. Are you satisfied with his performance since his re-election?
Your question on whether she did not see this coming as a reference to his first term. Well I say this, people are sometimes married for more than a decade and suddenly wake up to realize they married the wrong person. And truthfully, how many Tanzanian leaders have been elected because of performance?? If it was for performance, then how do you justify the 39% who chose someone else whom they have never seen perform?? I guess a little understanding of how politics really works vs theory will help you calm your mind from such shock as Ms. Shy-Rose decision to questioned the President's performance!
You sound like an intelligent Tanzanian, but I guess your passion got you furious punching the keys and writing such comment.
Freedom of speech is something we take it for granted sometimes, as a responsible leader, sometimes you have to stand up for your people even if it goes against some of the principles you supported personally. And if this is also away for self ambition, well who is to blame you!Is she a competent leader or not, I don't know, but it does not take a rocket scientist to realize the current situation of our economy towards the ordinary citizen. And I don't think her being a member of the ruling party stops her from criticizing it or its leadership if they fail to adhere to their principles.
Wishing you a pleasant day, and may we finally have electricity, water, hospitals and proper schools for our kids, whether through this president or the next.

ReplyDeleteI believe she had every right to speak her mind.Having voted for the party in 2010 doesn't mean that she has lost her right to shed light on what she feels may not be going as she had expected.I do not think it is right to label her as weak or disloyal just because she has pointed these things out, if anything her views may be taken as constructive criticism that will see the party improve its strategy and better fulfill its obligations.

ReplyDeleteNadhani ndani ya CCM kuna wazungumzaji kwenye vikao na wengine wananyima fursa kuzungumza kutokana na mfumo mbaya uliyopo ndani ya CCM.Haya ndio matokeo yake na bado tutayaona mengi zaidi.
