A 23-year-old Tanzanian artist, Mwasapi Kihongosi (pictured) has won a United Nations Secretary General’s Unite to End Violence against Woman campaign Competition.

The Statement issued by the United Nations here yesterday said Kihongosi beat 55 contenders from Africa to win the campaign’s T-shirt design competition.

“I am delighted to inform you that you have been selected as one of the winners of the United Nations Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign T-shirt design competition” the statement noted.

It further noted that Kihongosi joined four other winners each from Europe, North America, South America and Asia and the due to have breakfast with the UN Secretary General, Dr Ban-kimon on 23th November, 2011 at the UN Plaza in New York.

A total of 385 entrants participated in the competition, in which Kihongosi, a third year Computer Science degree student at the University of Dar es Salaam emerged among the five top winners.

On Wednesday, the five winners will participate in the Official Commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and 15th Anniversary of the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women.

In the 2006, Mr Kohongosi was among the best national best student in the Form four national Examinations. He started the passion of drawing and appreciating artworks at a very tender age.

He was born in Iringa, a third born in the family of four children of Mr. Nazareno Kihongosi and Esther Nyaulingo.
