Dear Wadau wa Globu ya Jamii
I am writing in reference to the on going debate about the floods that devastated the city of Dar es salaam and its sorroundings. There has been a category of people who have blamed the government and another category who say ni kazi ya Mwenyezi Mungu....
What people should know is that whatever happened in Dar es salaam has devastated lives and communities, had an impact on our economy and set back the little development that is taking place in the region. And worst of all, for predictable reasons , its the poor who are worst affected and who will foot the bill or pay the price.
So lets look at the facts , is it Tanzania alone? .The typhoon that hit Mindanao in Philippines before Christmas and lots of lives and property were lost. It was a shock indeed but not a suprise. Did you know that scientists from the UN strategy for disaster reduction by 2009 had predicted that the cities of Cayagan de Oro and Illigan would be hit by flash floods?. Even despite several warnings to the Philippines goverment they paid no heed .They never enacted a disaster management plan. Its also the same case in new orleans in 2005.The question is , does the governemnt of Tanzania have such a plan have they ever recieved a scientific notification that some thing serous in terms of natural disaster was about to happen to Tanzania?
What the govenment of Tanzania should now know is that Tanzania has more that 1 million new souls-one born every other day- and most of them are moving and basing in da res salaam , a coastal city with no barriers to natural disasters in case of the rise of sea level , etc.Threfore is Dar a potential city for meteorological disaster relating to climate change ,rising levels of green house gases and other weather extremes? Mzee michuzi una jibu?
It is common knowledge that this is not the first time our country has been hit by natural disasters causing great loss of lives and property. And it is also common knowledge that a problem, confronted every now and then by medics , scientists and economists who have to pick up the pieces,is good enough to pasuade our leaders and communities to be prepared for the next time round. What are those poor souls in jangwani still doing there? Is that not a death trap? Remember Knowledge is power only for those who can use it.
My heart felt sympathy goes out to the familes and their loved one who lost their lives and property
Mungu Ibariki Tanzania
Wewe mdau serikali haijafanya kosa lolote kwenye mafuriko haya kama umesoma habari mbalimbali watu walishapewa onyo miezi 2 iliyopita lakini wamepuuzia sasa hivi watu wanatakiwa kuondoka mabondeni permanently na serikali kwa vyevyote isiruhusu mtu yeyote kurudi na nyumba zote zinatakiwa kupigwa nyundo. Hakuna mtu kurudi mabondeni tena alaaaa!
ReplyDeleteFLOODS SUNKED DAR ES SALAAM, THAT DEVASTATED INFRASTRUCTURE IS NATURAL DISASTER!
ReplyDelete1.The water level reached roof tops of the houses that something out of Structural management(sewage systems) control!
2.We can only DISCUS ON REACHING after math of the disaster and the way of evacuation plans, to re-settle the victims and return to the normal order!
More that this it will be JUST POLITICAL BOONDAGGAGLES!
this article worth alot.
ReplyDeleteits clear and wise written.
HATA MKESHE MIAKA 100 MUMUOMBE AWAAONDELEE HAYA MADHARA.
TUBADILIKE!
