In order to further promote China-Africa exchanges and cooperation in poverty reduction and with the approval of the State Council, IPRCC invited a five-member delegation headed by Mr. Stephen Masato Wasira, State Minister of Tanzanian President’s Office, to visit China from August 27 to September 2 for a field trip themed “Economic Modernization Transformation and Poverty Reduction: China’s Experience”.
During their stay in Beijing from August 28 to 30, the delegation visited such central government ministries as the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Development Research Center of the State Council and talked with relevant officials to learn China’s policy experience in boosting national economic modernization transformation in the 30 years of reform and opening-up. On the afternoon of August 30, LGOP Minister Fan Xiaojian held formal talks with the delegation.
From August 30 to September 2, the delegation went to Guangdong Province for studying China’s experience in the development of special economic zones, policies and practices of rural poverty alleviation and development, especially the characteristics of “Shuangdao” (i.e., make planning for each household and assign responsibility to each member) poverty reduction mode. During their stay in Guangzhou, the delegation visited Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co., Ltd., Qiaokou (Yingde) Food Co., Ltd. and other export-oriented enterprises. They also went to Qingyuan City for inspecting “Shuangdao” poverty reduction and new socialist rural construction. Guangdong’s Vice Governor Deng Haiguang held talks with the delegation on the afternoon of September 2.
Mr. Wasira and his delegation spoke highly of China’s remarkable achievements in the modernization and anti-poverty drive in its 30 years of reform and opening up. He said that as both countries belong to the developing world, China’s experience in economic modernization transformation and large-scale poverty reduction campaign would have a positive significance for Tanzania. China’s experience clearly indicates that the necessary condition to realize poverty reduction is economic development. The trade and investment cooperation between China and Tanzania enjoys broad space. In addition, he extended a welcome to Chinese investors on behalf of the Tanzanian government, and believed the mutually-beneficial economic and trade cooperation between the two sides will deepen their traditional friendship.
Relevant staff from the Cooperation Division and the Tanzanian Embassy in China accompanied the delegation during their inspection tour.
