The Global Peace Foundation Tanzania is the Tanzanian Chapter of the Global Peace Foundation International based in Washington DC, which is non-sectarian, non-partisan, nonprofit organization, which promotes an innovative, values-based approach to peace building, guided by the vision of One Family under God. Global Peace Foundation engages and organizes a global network of public and private sector partners who develop community, national, and regional peace building models as the foundation for ethical and cohesive societies.
With chapters in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Tanzania, GPF maintains a strong presence in Africa and has a successful track record of promoting peaceful coexistence and mitigating extremist and sectarian violence. The chapter in Tanzania is very new but their efforts in promoting peace has been recognized by society.
Global Peace Foundation Tanzania chapter participated in a solidarity meeting on 12th March 2016, between faith leaders from the Mainland, Unguja and Pemba in Zanzibar to consolidate support, launch the programme of community dialogues with community radios and release a joint statement on maintaining peace during the re-elections in Zanzibar. They was represented by their Country Director, Ms Martha Nghambi.
The meeting was organized by Inter Religious Council for Peace Tanzania (IRCPT) and UNESCO, involved Religious Leaders from both Tanzania mainland as well as from Zanzibar, aimed at ensuring peace in the coming elections in Zanzibar.
