Homecoming film that features corruption in Tanzania in an eye of the returnee, has been nominated for Best East African Film at the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) that will be held in Lagos, Nigeria on 4th March, 2017.
The feature film received a grant from the Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF), has received a great honor on international stage. This testifies a productive relationship between TMF and its grantees such as Alkemist Media’s Seko Shamte, an independent producer who was initially supported to produce Mkwawa Documentary, an impactful documentary on the making of the nation.
Seko, a Tanzanian Film Producer and TV Presenter, is currently in the US on invitation to screen her Homecoming film at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, California this February.
According to the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), the film viewership is over 50 countries around the world. This film about corruption in the country was launched towards the end of 2015 at Mlimani City by the Minister for Information, Nape Nnauye and was broadcast live by Azam TV. According to the Film Board, Tanzania is ranked the second after Nigeria in Film production in Africa.
Seko Shamte is a writer, producer, director and DJ. Shamte is the managing director of Alkemist Media based in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and has over 15 years of experience in the Tanzanian media industry.
She holds a BSc (Hons) in Finance and Media from Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) in New York City, USA. During her time as a student at MMC she won the business key, the top award given out by the school for the best student in the business department.
