Hussein Boffu, the Chief Giving Officer of the Oil and Gas Happy Hour talks about the upcoming oil and gas event in Tanzania and how they cultivate the economic growth of the industry in the region through education awareness and connecting businesses with opportunities.
Can you tell us a little bit about the oil and gas happy hour?
The Oil and Gas Happy Hour was established in 2018 to facilitate the economic growth of the oil, gas and energy industry through education, awareness and connecting businesses with opportunities. The event allows attendees to network with their peers in a casual environment whilst simultaneously setting their career and business strategies using exclusive industry insights from the industry professionals.
The Happy Hour remains committed to and prides itself on providing a platform that brings together professionals to socialize and network. Aside from this, guests are able to discuss prominent and relevant issues; learn about upcoming projects in the oil and gas industry and engage in meaningful dialogue with their peers. A portion of the sales from the tickets is donated to children in need.
Supporting the community we live and work in is important for the sustainable economic growth of the industry. How does the event make a positive impact on the community?
We are proud to support our community through a variety of ways:
Firstly, we provide money and resources; with each ticket purchased, we donate a portion of net proceeds to children in need on behalf of our attendees, partners, and sponsors. In 2018, the organisation donated school uniforms, shoes and learning materials to a charity, Children in need, in Mkuranga. The charity is selected by participants of each year’s event
The oil and gas happy hour also gives rise to opportunities via the raising of awareness; during the happy hour we invite the local non-profit organisations to host a booth at our events. This is an opportunity for such organisations to be introduced to the wide array of guests, partners and sponsors. In doing so, we allow the organisations to raise awareness of the various volunteering opportunities available. Volunteering opportunities in which members of the local community will be benefitting from.
What was the main result of the past event on local content?
Although this is an up and coming platform, we have already started to see a positive impact. In terms of local content, we have a gentleman from India who is forming a partnership with a local company that will develop the local workforce. We also have some local service providers who have registered with EWURA’s supplier database so that they may capitalize on the opportunities in the proposed East African crude oil pipeline (EACOP) project.
What is “Empower The Future”?
Empower the future is more than a tagline. The oil and gas happy hour has always aimed to empower for a better tomorrow. We know of only one way: we plant the seeds of the industry and business today so that we can have a plentiful harvest tomorrow.
Service providers and equipment providers must connect with people and get sight to the project opportunities today as they have desired growth tomorrow. If you are a safety officer, lawyer, accountant or an engineer you must connect with people in the present so that you grow your career in the future. The same holds true with our giving model, for each ticket purchased we give away a portion of the net proceeds to children in need. As previously mentioned we have already donated shoes and learning materials to 18 children. We planted the seeds to the children of today so that they may have a better tomorrow. This is a platform that empowers people, industries and communities alike for brighter prospects.
Any final words?
Come one; come all for the second annual oil and gas happy hour. Oil and gas professionals are encouraged to join us to not only network with their peers but to set their career and business strategies with confidence using exclusive insights from the industry speakers. I would like to invite everybody to the second annual oil and gas happy hour which will be hosted at the Best Western CBD hotel, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Friday, August 23, 2019, from 18:00 to 22:00PM
