TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) funding for the Tanzania Women Traders' Association (TWCC) has begun to bear fruit, with more than 200 women entrepreneurs being empowered to produce quality products, assisted with the TBS brand logo and barcode, and enabled to participate in the 45th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair to showcase their products, promoting then, and opens their access to national and international markets.

This was revealed by the TradeMark East Africa, Tanzania Country Director, Monica Hangi, during the evaluation of TWCC's participation in the 45th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, where TWCC, Clinched one among the top awards.

Monica Hangi, congratulated TWCC for the victory and for the good job it’s doing to women traders.

"Congratulations to TWCC Chairperson, Mercy Silla and TWCC Executive Director, Mwajuma Hamza for a job well done. Many of them now have the TBS logo, they can sell it abroad, they have reliable markets that is a big deal for us, TradeMark East Africa because the goal is now being fulfilled, to be able to support and help Tanzanian women traders to do business not only locally, but cross borders and international as well as securing permanent reliable markets, that is the key because sometimes you can find a market but you no longer have enough products to continue producing, but most are sustainable, some we see who trained four years ago and are here continue to grow and they have more products, better products, with TBC stickers and barcodes, for us that really is a very good issue. We are happy, we are relieved, Mama Silla and Mwajuma, congratulations ”- concluded Monica Hangi.

On his part, TradeMark East Africa Women in Trade Project Manager, Elibariki Shammy, said “we are really happy, because we have supported TWCC, and they have proved to be very effective, especially in reaching out rural women, we have now reached about 20 thousand women, we had the first phase of the project, now in the second phase. It is very interesting, to see many products now.  At the beginning when we started, and these people had no TBS quality mark so these TBS quality marks, now help them reach larger markets that are global. For example, there are women who now export cashew nuts to Uganda; there are women there who we are exporting batik to Kenya. There are many women who have soap products or similar, they can sell them at super markets, because through this training, not only TBS, there is also a barcode issue, initially they did not have a barcode, but our training has enabled them to have TBS and a barcode, so the main goal is to help them reach the big markets, TradeMark is here to make sure that happens ”, said, Elibariki.

For her part, TWCC Chairperson, Mercy Silla said “I would really like to take this opportunity on behalf of the directors of TWCC, all members, and business women in our country to thank TradeMark, East Africa, for their great support. they have thrown us. As you can see the number of women traders is increasingly, we are formalizing their businesses, we teach them to produce quality products, branding, we help then get TBS, and barcodes. There are many others, they are still behind. So our duty and responsibility is to reach all women at all levels. And to enable them to formalize their businesses, but we also believe that by doing so; we contribute to the economy of our country, but also the economy of their families. We are walking along President, Samia foots steps, she argues, women to dare, rise, and do everything. “Every thing a man can do, a woman can do”. “I really want to thank you very much Trade Mark East Africa. I believe everyone coming here, gets a lesson, and these when they all return, they will tell their colleagues great things, and today you have come to visit us, I believe they will tell you we have seen those who brought us here, so I thank you very much ”concluded Mama Silla.

On her part, TWCC Executive Director, Mwajuma Hamza, thanked TradeMark East Africa, “Thank you TradeMark East Africa, we have reached many women, since we started working with TradeMark East Africa, this project is 5-year project, now is just 2nd year we have reached thousands of women, we hope to reach tens thousands of women, but also to help them access business information, build their capacity, their businesses to meet the international standards, but also to address the challenges of the business environment. For us through Trademark, we believe we will continue to benefit, and these women will continue to do well locally and internationally, and right now TradeMark are creating a system for us to sell online, so due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we believe, women will continue to do their businesses online. Thank you very much ”concluded Mwajuma.
