The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has thanked the Government of India for its continued efforts to strengthen cooperation with Tanzania in the sectors of education, health, trade, investment, water, science and technology.

President Dr. Mwinyi made the remarks today, July 19, 2026, when he met with India's Minister of External Affairs, Hon. Dr. S. Jaishankar, at a conference hall at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi, India.

During the discussions, President Dr. Mwinyi asked India to increase the number of scholarship and training opportunities for students and professionals from Zanzibar, as well as to strengthen the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus by introducing more academic programmes and supporting the construction of its permanent campus.

President Dr. Mwinyi also handed over to Minister Jaishankar the Master Plan for the construction of the permanent IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, aimed at making Zanzibar a hub for higher education, research, innovation and technology for the African region.

For his part, Minister Dr. Jaishankar commended the progress made by IIT Madras Zanzibar and reaffirmed the Indian Government's commitment to continuing to strengthen cooperation with Tanzania across various development sectors.

President Dr. Mwinyi continues his visit to India, where he is meeting with various leaders with the aim of strengthening development cooperation between Zanzibar, Tanzania and India.
