High Commissioner presenting a dummy ticket to Timothy Kitundu.The British High Commission is pleased to announce the two winners of our Climate Change Journalism Competition. They are Mr. Lucas Liganga of Media Solutions and Mr. Timothy Kitundu from The Express.
Mr. Liganga's entry was an article entitled "Climate Change: Over One Million Tanzanians are at Risk of Starvation, Crops are Failing".
Mr Kitundu's entry was called "Climate Change Impact in Tanzania: Severe Stress in Social Structure". His article focused in particular on the increase in vector-borne and water-borne diseases as a result of climate change.
Also highly commended was Ms. Sharifa Kalokola from The Citizen for her article, "As Temperatures Rise, Malaria Deaths Soar".
The prize for the two winners is attendance at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference (COP15), which begins on 7 December. The prize was presented to them today by British High Commissioner Diane Corner.
The High Commissioner said, "I feel it is important that this vital conference should be reported to Tanzania by Tanzanian journalists, and am pleased that the High Commission has played a role in making this possible".
The two winners will be accompanied to Copenhagen by the Chair of JET (Environmental Journalists of Tanzania), Mr Deo Mfugale.
