Honorable Bernard Kamillius Membe (MP) Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania last night was the guest of honor at the African Union Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi organized by the African Group of Ambassador in United Arab Emirates. The celebrations included a seminar on Peace and Security in Africa followed by a Gala Dinner in the same evening.
The United Arab Emirates government was represented by His Excellency Dr Said Al Shamsi Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Organizations.

In his key note address Honorable Membe thanked the African Group of Ambassadors for the honor bestowed upon him, he reviewed the security challenges that have befallen the African continent since the African states attained state hood in the last half a century he underscored that Africa has prevailed in responding to the challenges and has become increasingly innovative in solving her own problems highlighting experiences in Comoro, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
He hailed the emergence of new actors in addressing African Conflicts such Turkey and, the Arab world. Hon Membe saluted the particular support and contribution of the United Arab Emirates in assisting the AU in rising up to meet the various security challenges.
He also lauded the efforts of the African Group of Ambassadors in promoting Africa in the United Arab Emirates and called upon the Envoys to avail the same opportunity to his other African counterparts in future. Other presentations were by Dr Jamila Atiku Abubakar from American University of Sharjah and Dr Abdulaziz Sager of the Gulf Research Center of Dubai.
Hon Membe is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on His Excellency Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the UAE and HE Dr Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Actng Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development,. Last year the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development extended a loan of 47ml USD for the construction of Kidahwe Uvinza Kigoma Road
