It is with great pleasure and pride that we take this opportunity to kindly inform the general public that the University of Dar es Salaam is due to celebrate its Golden Anniversary in October, 2011.
In view of this great landmark, The President of the Convocation, Hon. Justice Joseph Sinde Warioba, and the Vice Chancellor Prof. Rwekaza Mukandala will host a special launching ceremony, to be held during the 2010 Annual General Convocation Meeting.
The meeting will be held in the University’s Nkrumah Hall tomorrow 26th November 2010, from 9 a.m. In recognition of the significance of this landmark in the University’s history, this year’s Convocation will be held under the theme “Towards 50 Years of the University of Dar es Salaam”.
The launching ceremony, to be graced by the Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda, the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, will mark the beginning of yearlong celebrations of the University’s Golden Anniversary.
Over the last 50 years the University has fulfilled its key responsibility of producing knowledge and providing higher education to generations of Tanzanian’s, Africans and other people of the world, many of whom have subsequently contributed immensely to the development of their communities and countries.

The occasion of the 50th Anniversary provides an opportunity for the University to take stock of its past efforts and seriously reflect on its future directions and aspirations. To reflect these underlying objectives, the celebrations will precede under the dictum “Advancing Knowledge, Creating Futures”.
Besides, we believe that this is a landmark worth celebrating in elaborate ways and on a scale befitting the glamorous half century history that this institution is proud of.

It is therefore with great honour and pleasure that I formally invite all the University of Dar es Salaam alumni, friends and members of the general public to the yearlong celebrations, and especially to the launching ceremony on 26th November, 2010.
The participation of alumni and members of the public in this inaugural activity will undoubtedly be of great significance in making both the launching ceremony and the extended 50th Anniversary Celebrations successful and memorable.
